It has been reported that Carnival are in advanced talks with the port of Southampton on the construction of a 4th cruise terminal in Southampton.
With 250 cruise ship calls already booked for 2006, Southampton will remain firmly at the top of the league table in the UK.
Lets hope these talks come to fruition.

I can imagine that Southampton, Dover and Harwich will all grow in the coming years.

It would be nice to see some the uK's smaller ports such as 'Tilbury' and even 'Liverpool' grow, too.

Malcolm I would love to see Greenock and Rosyth used on a regular basis, as it is getting to be a nightmare driving back up that M6 now, last few times we have had long delays. Dont want to fly so that is not an option.

Mary, as the UK cruise industry continies to grow, I'm sure that many existing cruise-ports will grow and those that have fallen into disuse will be re-born.

Liverpool's new purpose build £12 miliion cruise terminal is under construction. When completed cruise ships will be able to berth at the Pier Head directly infront of both the Liver and Cunard building. Passengers will then have a five minute walk to Liverpool City centre or the Albert dock area. Also under construction is the largest shopping mall in Europe, again within a five minute walk.
For passengers who want to go further afield they will be able to visit Southport, Chester or North Wales.
Construction is due to be complete in 2006.

Last I read they were whining in the Daily Post that the cruise terminal/landing pier won't be completed in time for the 800 year anniversary in 2007 or even 2008 due to the new owners of Mersey Docks. They're still reckoning they'll get Grand Princess up there. Liverpool will never be the way it was. A friend of mine up there even says that. And when they do get anything other than the usual Black Prince, Funchal, Van Gogh they never even report it (apart from the QE2). He missed Seabourn Pride, Prinsendam and Crystal Symphony this year because he didn't know. Liverpool will, like London, never be a major cruise port again. And I'm not saying that because I'm in Southampton. My dad's from Liverpool and I love the place. But for other ships they are included in Round Britain cruises of which there are hardly any. They should think smaller like Poole in Dorset. They know they'll never get bigger ships so are aiming for smaller ships to make calls there. Liverpool's (and London's) heyday are well over but the Daily Post doesn't seem to realise that. Dover has grown due to its position. Liverpool has the Irish Sea as a problem.
