Has anyone been able to see Boudicca (ex Grand Latino) in Tenerife? Perhaps Fred Olsen are doing as much soft fitting work in Tenerife before the hardware change in Germany?

Looking forward to visiting her for the first time in Dover in the summer for her Mediterranean cruise.

John, I have not seen anything more than what was said, and the photo linked to, on this thread. But I expect you say that anyway.

Seems strange that things are seemingly so quiet.

The Grand Latino - Boudicca is already in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The funnel has lost the star that had as Grand Latino. As far as I know, there is not webcam to see her there.

Thanks for the link.. also shows she is due to sail for Hamburg at 10.00 on 30 Nov. They need to paint the funnel.. you can see the outline of the star. I expect they will and attach the new FOCL bits before she sails.

Boudicca's funnel has now been repainted in the Fred Olsen colours. There is a photo in the pictures section beside one of Celebrity's ships.

Best wishes

That's a lovely photo of Millennium with Boudicca. Cambodge is aboard Millennium so I wonder if he has some nice close-up photos for us. He has been in contact and sent a photo of Mt Teide, but didn't mention Boudicca I have asked now. He is having a lovely time, a bonus being that JMG is aboard with daily lectures as they make the crossing.

So they made the same mistake again. What is white now is not really suitable to be painted white. It does not necessarily have to be a dark color - just painting red what is white now and the other way around. (of course, this would make it necessary to do someting with the logo - but this can be done without any big loss)

From a business point of view, I'm still shocked that Olsen purchased a ship so old. It highlights just how little 'small' tonnage there is out there for sale.

Mind you the Olsen fans (including John, me and Pam) will of course just love her.

Of course we love her - but I think she also can make profit. I guess if F. Olsen was smart this was really a bargain. A ship like her is probalby much cheaper to buy than building a new one - including the extensive refit. Also, Olsen is charging quite a high price for such an old ship. (...high price for quite small cabins, no balcony etc.)

The Royal Viking trio were advanced ships for their time, weren't they? - perhaps we're seeing the benefits of that now.

I really love the Royal viking Trio as they have a very good layout - but I guess they were finally not much more advance than other ships of their time.
Also, the quality of their interior decor was/is not overwhelming - and cabins are far from being too large for what they charged - even for the seventies.
Nevertheless the layout is really good - and compared to other ships from that time they are/were a bit more spaciouse which might contribute to why we finally see them again in a role similar to what they were built for. (tough 'less' luxuriouse)

It is a little sad that they have both lost some public rooms.

Although Olsen were boasting about Black Watch’s refit, losing the Library, Card Room and Disco mainly benefits the few that stay in the new and rather pricey suites.

here are 3 photos from Cambodge taken from Millennium, "at about 0800 hours on the 24th as we slid into the dock. The small naval ship immediately ahead is the "Sir Tristan," a RN vessel". He also commented that "the aft pool deck was a shambles with workmen all about". So they must be doing more than just a bit of painting in Tenerife.

Thanks Cambodge and Pam for the pictures!

The BOUDICCA looks very nice...almost mistaken her as the BLACK WATCH! She looks like a yacht compared to the MILLIE.

Cambodge's first two photos look as if they were taken at the same time as the current 'photo del dias' on the Port of Tenerife' site.

It always surprised me that RVL succeeded with
the competition of SAL and to a lesseer degree,
NAL. Those small cabins at those big prices were
such a contrast to Gripsholm and Kungsholm. I
suppose the demise of SAL in '75 was a huge help
with RVL's success. I liked RVL, but in comparison
to SAL and to those of us who loved SAL, RVL
was not in the same league.

I guess the sucess of Royal Viking and even more NAL can only be explained by the fact that SAL ceased operation. Funny enough, this also seems to be one of the reasons for the myth which emerged around Norwegian ships.
