The ship's website.

Orphalese appears to be a creation of Khalil Gibran's. Or did he get that from somewhere else?

Would we like to buy an appartment on a ship where the owners take a Grand Class ship for their rendering? (....and are not really familiar with the concept of perspective...) At least she has an observation louge - I do not understand why The World hasn`t got one - this is actually the only public room which is required on such a ship.

The website's intro appears to be decidedly Oriental vs Occidental in its appeal. Is this the target market for this ship's potential homeowners?

Isn't The World having problems keeping their residents onboard instead of renting out their apartments?

You must be seeing things. The rendition you are talking about is a hybrid of many vessels not just the Grand-class.

How do you know there is a observation lounge? There’s no mention of one. Also they haven’t released details of decks 11, 12, 13 and 14 in their deck plans. But, I must agree Ernst, that an observation lounge with a decent bar should be included.

I've seen the elevation. That's a Spirit class rip-off.

Ernst, the rendition on the main page seems to have nothing to do with the actual ship (thank god for that).

I believe the side elevation is accurate. It matches the deck plans and the specs that have been released. I also believe it is a modified Spirit-class hull. This makes sense given that Aker-Finnyards build the Spirit-class, and using an existing hull design would save considerably on the development costs.

I am a bit shocked that somone is moving ahead with a 90,000 ton condo ship. The World was originally to be 70,000 tons (I believe), but was later scaled back considerably to better fit the limited market for such a ship.

I did not say that it is only Grand Class - the point is that is a very, very poor redention.

I've found the answer to my own question.

But surely the start of the novel is not auspicious, from the perspective of the ship's passengers?

quote:
ALMUSTAFA, the chosen and the beloved, who was a dawn unto his own day, had waited twelve years in the city of Orphalese for his ship that was to return and bear him back to the isle of his birth.

And in the twelfth year, on the seventh day of Ielool, the month of reaping, he climbed the hill without the city walls and looked seaward; and he beheld his ship coming with the mist.
