Three Aida cruise liners overnight in Malta
September 17, 2005

On 19 and 20 September Malta’s Grand Harbour will be hosting three sister cruise liners at the same time: The Aida Cara, Aida Vita and Aida Aura. All chartered by a leading German organisation.

Owned and operated by Aida Cruises of Rostock, these three cruise liners are regular and frequent callers to Malta and on this particular day they will bring over 4,000 tourists to our island. Aida Cruises, which is part of Carnival Cruises, are currently building another two cruise liners which are expected to be ready in 2007 and 2008.

It is quite unusual for these three cruise liners to be in Malta simultaneously and to mark this occasion the port agents in Malta – SMS Shipping – will be making a presentation of a painting of the three vessels to each master and another to the ship owning company.

The presentation will be held at around 10am on Tuesday 20 September at Palazzo Stagno, Sqaq Stagno, Qormi.

Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech will be present as will Heinz Grubel, Aida Cruises’ vice president sales .

Malta’s efforts in establishing itself as a prominent port of call is certainly proving to be a great success as evidenced by the number of cruise liner calls this year, said SMS.

They'll be in port today and tomorrow. Can anyone come up with some photos?

******

Cheers

Yes, thanks for the link... but I do think like BB that a picture from the otherside of the harbour with no trees etc in the way would be a better view? All the same it must have been a grand day for the passengers and crew alike, with a lot of whistle blowing! Maybe there was a photo session at sea for a fleet marketing shot as they sailed.

Thanks again - do you have a picture of the Club Med vessel (Club Med 2 or the former Club Med 1 now Wind Surf) with the Aida ships?

How often did it happen that all vessels of one line - or all of one class (I know that not all three Aida ships are not sisters) were at one place? I only know that RCCL did that with their early ships.

Excellent!! Just what I was hoping to see. I have often popped into the AIDA fans website, it must be a one of a kind? They certainly have a lot of fun aboard.

I love that shot of all 3 from the air, superb!

The AIDA Fans are very keen to post new pics, and why not? It doesn't happen every day that you have three ships of your favourite cruise line together!

It is undeniable that the stern/aft of the newer Aida vessels is one of the more interesting ones - especially compared to other newly built vessels. (nevertheless, these ships are not my "thing")
