The "Grand Class" is turning into quite a series of ships. Although not all identical, they are close enough that I consider them to be "near sisters". So far we know of:

GRAND PRINCESS
GOLDEN PRINCESS
STAR PRINCESS
SAPPHIRE PRINCESS
DIAMOND PRINCESS
CARIBBEAN PRINCESS
CROWN PRINCESS
EMERALD PRINCESS

I think there is one after EMERALD as well?? It's really time for Princess to come up with a new design.

Other large groups of sister ships include:

Fantasy Class:
FANTASY
ECSTASY
SENSATION
FASCINATION
IMAGINATION
INSPIRATION
ELATION
PARADISE

Destiny/Conquest Class:
CARNIVAL DESTINY
CARNIVAL TRIUMPH
CARNIVAL VICTORY
CARNIVAL CONQUEST
CARNIVAL GLORY
CARNIVAL VALOR
CARNIVAL LIBERTY
CARNIVAL FREEDOM
COSTA FORTUNA
COSTA MAGICA
COSTA CONCORDIA

Voyager/Freedom Class:
VOYAGER OF THE SEAS
EXPLORER OF THE SEAS
ADVENTURE OF THE SEAS
NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS
MARINER OF THE SEAS
FREEDOM OF THE SEAS
ENDEAVOR OF THE SEAS

R-Class:
TAHITIAN PRINCESS
PACIFIC PRINCESS
REGATTA
NAUTICA
INSIGNIA
MINERVA II
(two others which I can never keep track of)

HAL S-Class:
STATENDAM
MAASDAM
RYNDAM
VEENDAM
ROTTERDAM
AMSTERDAM
VOLENDAM
ZAANDAM

Well at least for now she does not appear to have the "jet tubes" on her stack. I think those are the ugliest things out there. And I like the look of the night club at the base of the stack rather than perched all the way aft. I wonder if P&O is still planning on taking the last of this class as the "new" Canberra...

Personally I do not think the tubes make the ship look any worse. If one does not like the design, the tubes are neither here nor there!

I do hope not.

IMO i think she looks great. I like the mix of all the stuff on the other sister ships like the closer to the stack night club and no jet tubes!

She looks just ok IMO. She will win no beauty contests. She is so flat on top. Without the bow and funnel, she would be a giant overturned milk carton.

My opinion:

She looks like what she is -- overgrown and inflated. It's time to kill this series (strictly from a passenger's non-business-savvy perspective, not from a CEO's which I'm sure says keep these 'Grander Grands' coming like bunny rabbits).

Anyway, good for Princess as they seem to be making something that a lot of passengers love and want more of.

Nothing special, but I think the relocation of Skywalkers is better athetically.

The funnel looks as though it has been reshaped?

Oh dear, that will certainly disillusion one past passenger, who went to great lengths explaining to me how they really made the ship gooooooo, and the heat from the exhausts was tremendous. My polite comment of 'Oh, I had really thought they were just for show', was pooh pooh'd as nonsense

These fake engines would be nice with a Carnival funnel.

Yep. She looks more like the St. Louis Gateway Arch now.

For comparison:

Grand Princess

Crown Princess

St. Louis Arch

Brilliant! I never thought of that...

I think you read Princess' mind of being "patriotic" by the funnel design

The funnel no longer slopes in the front because there is no longer a glass covered pool. On the Grand Glass ships with the covered pool, the funnel is actually incorporated into the sides of the glass roof giving it a much more streamlined appearance.

Interesting that CROWN PRINCESS was chosen to sail out of NY, even though she doesn't offer the glass enclosed pool. At least she will depart NY before it gets too cold.

It's interesting that the funnel is even different from Caribbean Princess which doesn't have the glass-enclosed pool. I wonder why they decided to do away with the structure which surrounds the pool on Caribbean.

Maybe they're not done yet with the basic structure up there (seems doubtful), but it just doesn't seem very graceful even compared to Caribbean.

I think she looks good, not great, but good. I really like the Grand Class ships from the inside and the ammenities they offer.

Sapphire and Diamond have the best layout, if it wasn't for those horrid "jet engines" they would be my favoriate.

Ernie,

The Japanese-built Grand-class funnels do have those "jet" stuff but not the much debated "Ferrari spoiler" (Fincantieri) or "Trolley handle"(classic shiplovers).
The perfect ship would blend the best of both!
I wonder if the St-Louis shape isn't for a better outdoor movie integration?
Sea Princess looks awful since her refit!
As for the future Canberra lets hope she will follow the traditional funneling of Arcadia, Aurora or Oriana!
Its funny, but P&O/Princess have been pinching ships since the Spirit of London!

Yes, the second of the Freedom-class is ENDEAVOR (ENDEAVOUR) OF THE SEAS. There is also a third to be built and completed in spring 2008. No name as yet.
