Welcome back Phil.

I think the refurbishment work on PACIFIC STAR (COSTA TROPICALE) will take place at T. Mariotti in Genoa.

Thanks bigpapaduck. I only took a punt. I knew it had to be either T. Mariotti (Genoa) or Fincantieri (Palermo). I went with the yard that had previously done the refit when she moved from HAL to Costa.

Here are a couple of images of the Fincantieri dry docks in the Palermo harbour.

There are 2 graving docks and 2 floating docks.

You are correct Waynaro. I actually meant Carnival, but somehow got confused with WESTERDAM (COSTA EUROPA).

COSTA TROPICALE had a Euro 30million refit in February 2001 at the T. Mariotti yards of Genoa.

Thanks Italian Cruiser -

the webcam shows the ship docked in the shipyard... im guessing it will be a dry dock soon.

I read somewhere that the funnel will have the same logo as the pac sky's current one. Does anyone think they will modify/remodel the shape of the funnel? or remain the same?

Multimillion-dollar facelift for a Star
October 20, 2005

Carnival Australia president Gavin Smith announced today that P&O Cruises Australia officially became the owner of Costa Crociere's 36,674gt Costa Tropicale last night (Sydney time).

Smith said the ship, which was built in 1982 and underwent a US$30m refit in 2001, will remain in Italy for five weeks where she will be transformed into Pacific Star.

The latest refit will cost A$20m (US$15m) and the vessel's new look will include a dedicated teen centre, a Lotus Spa, a steak house and the reconfiguration of some cabins to accommodate four passengers each.

Pacific Star will sport her new livery as P&O Cruises Australia’s third resident ship when she arrives Down Under to commence her inaugural South Pacific itineraries from Brisbane on Dec. 18.

Seatrade Insider understands a godmother has been chosen but details of the renaming ceremony are yet to be disclosed.
