Dou you think that the new Cunarder, not being a linier but a cruise ship should not have a name with the word Queen as has been the use in the last times.

I propose to revcover all Cunard names as Berengaria, Aquitania, Mauretania, Karmania, Ausonia, etc. o new similar ones. Brittania, Anglia, Wales, East Anglia, etc. or the style of Wite Star names as Britanic, Olympic, etc., or a new style as Prince Charles, Prince William, etc. All but a Queen.

Why not Queen Victoria - it is a nice name. Cunard`s naming policy has been changed several times in the past, and finally Queen Mary 2 is also a specializled cruise ship "only".

The Queen name of course started w/QM1 in 1936. In the 1970s we have Cunard Adventurer, Countess, Princess etc.. Those names sould very mass market today w/lines like Carnival and NCL using a similar naming pattern. I like the tradional 'ia' ending names as they have real history and style! The QV should be called Mauretania, Aquitania, Berengaria, Caronia etc.

Berengaria was also Queen, no less so than the women after whom Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were named. If only Cunard's liners should bear the names of Queens, then Berengaria should be eliminated from your list of possibilities.

The 'Queen' names distinguish the Cunard 'brand' from other cruise lines.

It would be a serious PR/marketing mistake NOT to use such a name for any Cunard vessel, irrespective of whether we think it deserves it or not.

i wonder for long time about an issue that has to do with the name QUEEN . do Carnival or cunard have right over the name or sub name QUEEN?
if a cruise line will name its ship -queen anne- for example (Anne is a british queen , like Mary , Elizabeth and Victoria) do Carnival got a case agains this cruise line in court?

I was referring to the 4 ships with Queen in their names. Berengaria was not 'Queen Berengaria' but that sounds quite nice IMO.

I assume that Cunadival first asked the British Monach for permission to use the names 'Queen Mary' and 'Queen Victoria'?

IMHO, Queen Victoria is a nice sounding name
to the English speaker's ear. Also, it gives
continuity to the naming process which Cunard
uses.

As a british resident for 15 years, the name Queen Victoria sounds like that of an old fashion Public House!
On the other hand, as a ship's buff, it would do justice to the mistake done over naming rmsQueen Mary.
IMO, Queen is for a superior ship, very large and fast liner, not a cruise ship.
It would be blasphemous to name the Vista ship Queen, may be Regent, Monarch, but not Queen!
It would be interesting to see if Her
Majesty would name it?

That's becuase there are a number of pubs named after that Monarch. There are also pubs, bridges, hospitals and a cruise terminal named after Queen Elizabeth.

Now SS Lewis, on the other hand, has got it right.
