Hello to everyone !

I have just got the new Costa's brochures for the 2006 cruise season.

Previous speculations made by Costa Cruises to send a cruise ship to Asia were confirmed.

The company has choosen COSTA ALLEGRA ( rebuilt in 1992 from the hull of a former finnish container ship).

The ship will depart from Savona on 04/30 to arrive to Hong Kong on 05/29.

Here is the itinerary: Savona- Naples- at sea (2 days)- Alexandria (Egypt)- Port Said (Egypt)- Suez Canal- at sea (2 days)- Hodeida (Yemen)- at sea- Salalah (Oman)- at sea (2 days)- Mumbay (India- 2 days)- Goa (India)- at sea- Colombo (Sri Lanka)- at sea- Port Blair (Andamane Islands)- at sea- Phuket (Thailandia)- Kuala Lampur (Malaysia)- Singapore- at sea- Ho Chi Min City (Vietnam)- Nha Trang (Vietnam)- Danang (Vietnam)- at sea- Hong Kong.

I suppose that Costa Allegra will use Hong Kong as homeport.

Frankly I don't know if her future cruises in the Far East- Pacific area will be marketed in Europe and America.

According to previous annoucements made by Costa Cruises she should be dicated to the local Chinese cruise market.

Your comments ?

See here: COSTA ALLEGRA to China in 2006

Will some of her interiors be changed for the Chinese market?

Thanks for the news Italian Cruiser.

Like I have said earlier, the cruise industry is really becoming less diverse. We have an "Italian Cruising" cruise line targeting toward an Asian market.

Now, the question is WHEN Costa will announce the Far East itineraries?

Bulbousbow, I doubt much of the interiors will change, but maybe an enlarged casino.

Ok, "cruising Italian style" in Asia. Works for me!

If Costa Allegra does homeport in Hong Kong, I am quite sure there will be much interest in this ship.
This will be direct competition with Star Cruises. The end result being that both cruise lines will have to be on their toes.

Service, food, entertainment etc., will have to be upgraded or changed and monitored closely, in the effort to "best" the other cruise line.

This should prove most interesting.

Are we sure Costa Cruises will offer real “cruising Italian style”? Maybe to some extent the food, but what about the rest? If only MSC had more ships!

Star now is being proded from two angles: Singapore with P&O Australia’s PACIFIC SKY; Hong Kong with Costa Crociere’s COSTA ALLEGRA. Who is going to be next?

Anyway...it is a good thing to have some competition in the Far East. Now how about Australasia?

******

Cheers

Costa introduced Festive, Italian-Style Crusing on the Costa Riviera in the nineties.
