Today I was in Rotterdam to meet some people who were going to sail on the m.s. Rotterdam.
Later in the afternoon I met some people I know and we were wondering what time the ship would depart as one said 17.00 and other sources said 18.00 So we asked a young officer, who had just said goodbye to his girlfriend.
He looked at me and said: Are you Willem ? ? I am Rob.
We had a nice talk before he boarded the ship again and he told me he liked the ship. He is now assigned to the engine room, but in a short time he will go to the bridge. He already made his decision where he wants to make a career. As a nautical officer.
In spite of the very bad weather I have made quite some photos which will be uploaded to the net within a few days.

Here are a couple of quick snap shots I made of Rotterdam’s departure today. I was in Rotterdam to meet up with cruise talker Doug (cruiseny) and his parents who are cruising on the Rotterdam this moment. While I showed them the maritime museum we also met maritime author Ted Scull who is also onboard the Rotterdam.

The Rotterdam departed on time and once she made her 180 turn she sailed sturdy towards the open sea. The addition on top of the bridge isn’t that bad from close by, it only looks strange and out of place when her entire profile is visible. I don’t fancy it that much though. While Rotterdam came loose from the dock side she playfully sounded her whistles a couple of times (I wonder if Rob was on the bridge that moment?! )

Very sad that i was not able to go to the dockside. And meet Onno and Doug.

Nice shots Onno the Rotterdam looks great.

Whene she leaves yesterday we hear here Horn blowing the wind was in the right direction (i live not that far frome the river Maas and Wilhelminakade) Here voice is impressiff even on a distance.

Great pictures Onno. I still don't like the new addition above the bridge. It reminds me of a flat panel TV monitor or an ocean liner bridge. I would really like to see a side shot of this addition.
