I think Turkey becomes more and more dangerous.

They have their Civil War in their Country with the Kurds.

Without finishing this, it is no safe Place.

And...

...we Europeans should never take them in our Community.

70 Million People, most of them poor and uneducated, with an War in the Country...

...no thanks.

And they do not accept Cyprus, which is an Member of the European Union.

An Reason more to say: no thanks...

Very strange thing. I saw a portuguese film called "Um Filme Falado", that was filmed in the ship Funchal, she was cruising in the mediterranean sea, and in one Turkish port they placed a bomb in the ship. She sank, of course, but for me it was a horrible movie.

There appears even in the US to be a real threat in ports. Last week on the Staten Island ferries which travel from Island to NYC, the National Guard was called in to be on ferries and in terminals. People are being searched, backpacks etc. It makes for a very uncomfortable crossing but must be done. Hope all of you are safe in Europe.

1. Turkey does not belong in Cyprus.
2. They don’t belong in the EU.

Ask the Greeks or the Armenians and they’ll give you the answer whether you should trust a Turk?

Israel Diverts Cruise Ships Amid Terror Warning
Ships Ordered Not To Dock In Turkish Port

Aug 5, 2005 11:38 am US/Eastern

JERUSALEM (AP) Israel ordered four of its cruise ships carrying thousands of tourists not to dock at the Turkish port of Alanya after receiving warnings of a possible terrorist attack, officials said Friday.

Israeli Transportation Minister Meir Sheetrit gave the order to the cruise vessels not to dock at the Turkish port. Army Radio said the ships were carrying 3,500 Israeli tourists.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev confirmed the ships were rerouted, saying, “There was a warning.”

However, he declined to say where they were sent or provide details about the nature of the warning.

A spokesman for Turkey’s Interior Ministry had no information about ships being diverted or any threats in Alanya.

Islamic militants in Turkey affiliated with al-Qaida bombed two synagogues, a London-based bank and the British Consulate in attacks in November 2003, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds more. More than 60 people currently are being tried in connection with the attacks.

The suspects said they originally planned to attack an Israeli ship in the Mediterranean, according to the prosecutor’s indictment.

During the trial, some defendants also testified that their ringleader met with Abu Hafs al-Masri, a former top lieutenant of Osama bin Laden, in 2001 and discussed attacking an Israeli ship making a call in Turkey or the southern Turkish Incirlik air base used by U.S. jets.

Thousands of Israeli tourists under terror threat in Turkey
By HERB KEINON (Oren Klass and Metehan Demir contributed to this report.)
August 9, 2005

The National Security Council's counterterrorism unit issued a travel warning Monday urging Israelis to refrain from visiting the popular southern coast of Turkey, between Alanya and Kemer, due to a "concrete terrorist threat." The strip includes the city of Antalya, a favorite destination for Israeli tourists. Israeli officials estimated there are presently thousands of Israelis in the area.

The travel advisory comes just three days after Transportation Minister Meir Sheetrit ordered four cruise ships with some 3,500 vacationers heading to Alanya to change course and dock in Cyprus because of terror warnings. He diverted another cruise ship on Monday.

Ambassador to Turkey Pinhas Avivi told The Jerusalem Post he would recommend that Israelis in the area covered by the warning spend their vacation in other parts of of the country, such as the Aegean Coast, the Black Sea or Central Turkey.

He said the warning, which he added was drawn up with the full knowledge and cooperation of the Turkish authorities, was very specific and would likely only last for a short period.

"The nature of this warning is that you know what you are looking for, and if you know what you are looking for, you have a good chance of finding it," he said.

Avivi said this was the first time "in a long while" there has been such a warning against travel in Turkey, although there are standing advisories against travel to Turkey's borders with Iraq and Iran.

The warning read: "In light of the revelations regarding serious concrete terrorist threats at coastal sites in Turkey, the National Security Council counterterrorism HQ hereby issues a temporary travel warning, which is likely to be short, until the threats are lifted. Until such time, all Israeli citizens are warned to avoid visiting or staying in the coastal strip in southern Turkey between Alanya and Kemer. Recommendations against staying close to Turkey's borders with Iran and Iraq remain in force. Israelis are likewise called on to be alert and maintain the recommended rules of behavior throughout Turkey."

Al-Qaida affiliated terrorists bombed two synagogues, a London-based bank and the British Consulate in attacks in Istanbul in November 2003, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds.

More than 60 people currently are being tried in connection with those attacks. According to the indictment, the suspects said they originally planned to attack an Israeli ship in the Mediterranean.

In response to a question whether the intelligence urging Israeli ships and citizens not to go to the Turkish Riviera came from Turkish sources, government spokesman Cemil Cicek declined to comment, saying that both countries have been in close contact for a long time, exchanging intelligence, especially on terrorism.

Staying true to their nonchalant reputation in light of terror threats, the Israeli public's desire to go to Turkey has not dwindled in the least despite the travel advisory.

Similar to the manner in which they continued to make their way down to terror-stricken Sinai following numerous terror warnings and attacks, Israelis are apparently unfazed concerning the latest travel warnings.

According to travel agencies, there have been no cancellations or requests by for refunds on purchased tickets.

Part of the reason, said Zion Tours CEO Mark Feldman, was that the cruise liner packages were geared toward onboard entertainment, while docking at the port cities was only a secondary attraction.

According to Feldman, the terror warnings mainly focused on the Alanya port and did not refer to other, more popular areas of Turkey. Therefore Israelis wishing to take cruise holidays to Turkey were not really affected.

"We just won't dock where they say it's dangerous," he said.

yesterday i talk with Caspi reservation department CEO , mrs Soli and she said to me that only Alania in this stage is not allowed and this order not to dock in Alania is temporary , and there are chances that the Dream Princess will dock there next week .
in the mean time , Caspi replaced Alania with Marmaris and Rhodes , make it difficult for them cause the ship need to depart Haifa very early in order to dock in those ports only by noon , the other day . this orders of the transsportation minestry is not so critical for Mano Cruises as its critical for Caspi due to the fact that Caspi offers only 3 and 4 nights cruises , both variation dock in Alania while Mano Cruises offers a large veriaty of cruises :3,4,5,7 and 14 nights cruises , most of them dont offer Alania as a port of call

He was arrested on Saturday it seems and charged today. There are lots of news reports about now. BBC, Guardian.... Just goes to show how the best security & intelligence is kept under cover with minimal fuss. The Israelis discovered the plot, kept the ships away, and apprehended the guy when found. The media didn't even know he had been apprehended at the time... no fuss, nothing for 'show'.. good job done.

Another Israel cruise ship diverted away from Turkey
Israeli authorities have ordered yet another cruise ship carrying Israeli tourists to Turkey to divert due to security concerns.
August 15, 2005

ALANYA - Last week, Turkish authorities detained a Syrian national who admitted planning to carry out attacks against Israeli tourists.

According to media reports Monday, the cruise liner the Mirage had been due to dock in the southern Mediterranean port of Alanya but was diverted to Greek Cyprus late Sunday night.

The Mirage, carrying some 650 passengers, was just the latest in a line of cruise ships that have been ordered not to berth in southern Turkish ports as a result of heightened security concerns. Last Friday, three cruise ships were diverted away from Turkish ports and in the past week at least five other vessels had their plans to dock in Turkey cancelled.

Last week, a Syrian national was arrested by Turkish security forces after it was alleged that he had planned to launch terrorist attacks against ships carrying Israeli tourists.

Turkish man arrested over alleged attack plot on Israeli ships
October 24, 2005

ISTANBUL - A Turkish man was arrested here Monday as part of a probe into an alleged plot by suspected Al-Qaeda militants to attack Israeli cruise ships off Turkey's Mediterranean coast earlier this year, the Anatolia news agency reported.

A court in Istanbul interrogated and then placed under arrest Salih Olcay, whose identity was used in a forged card held by Syrian national Louai Sakra when he was detained in August on charges of belonging to Al-Qaeda.

The prosecution had asked the court to arrest Olcay on charges of "membership to an illegal organization," Anatolia said.

Olcay said in his testimony he had lost his identity card two and a half years ago but did not know how, the NTV news channel reported.

The suspect also said he did not apply to the authorities for a new card and instead used his driving licence when he needed an identity document, NTV added.

When arrested in August, Sakra shouted to reporters outside the courthouse that he had prepared a tonne of explosives to attack ships carrying Israeli tourists to resorts on Turkey's Mediterranean coast.

Another Syrian, Hamed Obysi, believed to be a go-between for Al-Qaeda and its militants in Turkey, was arrested in the same operation, during which four Israeli ships carrying 3,500 tourists to the southern resort of Alanya were re-routed to Cyprus.

The Turkish police also suspect Sakra of involvement in two sets of twin suicide bombings in Istanbul in November 2003, which claimed about 60 lives and were blamed on a local cell of Al-Qaeda.

I agree completetly with Americanis. Also as mentioned by elad Turkey is a beautiful country but with their current political status not regognizing Cyprus they will never enter the EU. I'm not sure if Europeans would like to welcome Turkey in their community in the near future...
If you travel to Turkey you will realize immediatelly that this nation may not be ready to join EU even in the next 20 years...
