Looks like HAL has been busy onboard ROTTERDAM VI. Have a look at the spa/gym area above the bridge. It's been extended. Click the link below.

I believe it's part of HAL's "Signature of Excellence" upgrade program, which includes transforming all the gyms/spas into the "Greenhouse Spa" (among other things). I had read this meant enlarging the existing space, but I didn't think they were actually
extending the structure. I thought they were just reconfiguring the space they already had. Guess I was wrong.

It's definitely not very flattering to the forward profile.

The Rotterdam V is one of my favorite ships. Did a 10-night CAN/NE on her.

Its a shame that new extended area above the bridge couldn't have had more of a "wrap around" effect (a-la Canberra) on the area, maybe had the sides a type of open air well-deck.

Very poorly done. They should have taken more care in keeping an attractive profile.

At least it is better than Norwegion Crown's alteration. It is about maximum space utilization and unfortunately her profile has suffered.

So why wasn't it built that way to begin with? It's not like gyms and spas were not popular when ROTTERDAM VI was introduced?

It just seems when anything is "added" to an original design, the result is something less than appealing. Had this been done when the ship was first built, I'm sure a better design could have resulted.

The "after-market" approach is usually whats cheapest, and not always whats best.

If one didn't know any better it almost looks like the bridge of an old ocean liner (i.e. Queen Mary) with open bridge wings. Still dont care for it though. Guess it will grow on us.

Off hand I can't think of too many post-build structural modifications that actually, and significantally, added to the overall appearance to a ship. It always looks like an 'afterthought'.

But then too I havent seen what the 'Enchantment of the Seas' looks like post her stretching.

Ugh! That was rude of them. And for what? A few more treadmills? I guess we have no choice but to allow it to grow on us, although I'll be surprised if that happens.

I agree that it sort of looks like a bridge itself, and that in general these things don't usually work out in favor of keeping up appearances.

I believe the additions make to the SOS last year ( or was it this spring. . I forget) were done rather nicely. Her profile is still fantastic.

I tend to agree that the slope and flow of her forward section now has quite the abrupt hindrance in there.

The aft portion of the ship will also show the Oasis for teens, etc.

For those with a detailed eye, you'll also notice that the illuminated lettering has been changed. The lettering on all post-SOE ships now is very bright.

Onno it keeps you bussy in this warm weather.
i look forward to youre alteration.

Onno cane you try to move the original bulkhead forward so she is in line with the bridge. I think the overal apearence would be more to the original design.

Greetings Ben.

It looks awful - but could be worse. The really bad thing is that there is now only one unobstructed forward facing open deck.
