Hi everyone,
News from Hong Kong! OMAR STAR (ex-Radisson Diamond) has arrived Hong Kong today morning. Asia Cruises has organized a "grand welcoming ceremony" across the harbour. Before that she dropped anchor (in contrast to stay at buoy) next to the other casino ships in the harbour in the morning for inspection:

OMAR STAR at anchorage

OMAR STAR and some other casino ships

OMAR III and OMAR STAR - upon departure

OMAR III and OMAR STAR greeted each other with their horns several times, then OMAR STAR was surrounded by 7 to 9 ships including fire fighter, tugs and yachts, proceeding to the west, like this:

I was on the first ship around her so I was able to take these photos.
The ship will berth alongside (not passenger terminal) and will enter drydock in August. After 2 weeks of "seatrials", she will enter service in September. Currently there is no information about her itineraries and rates, and whether or not she will sail alongside OMAR III. According to their press release, she will be renamed Asia Star and is described as the "pride of Hong Kong".

GXD, thanks for the photo-reportage. An ungainly inclusion to the Hong Kong cruise scene.

Excellent photographs GXD, many thanks for those, especially the view through underneath her. Compliments also passed on from others. I still think she looks odd though, always will.

The RSSC logo on her funnels are gone, but no Asia Cruises logo at this moment.

My friend saw in a newspaper advertisement that her stripes will be re-painted to pink, and expect some large words like "Asia Cruises" on her hull .

THATS HORRIBLE!!!

Its hard to believe that she went from a RSSC 5-stars(?) ship to a casino ship so quickly. I guess I wouldn't mind a OMAR III livery on her, but pink stripes on a white hull?! NO!

Thanks for the pictures though.

Well, I guess its better than the breakers, but this was truely a 5 star ship and I simply LOVED cruising on her.... Heck of a shame she went from a world class hotel experience to a place to gamble...

According to the press of some newspapers, she will be sailing to Shantou on 2-night cruises, and some other destinations including Shanghai and Xiamen.

She will feature a two-deck-high "Titanic theme" restaurant and another Italian restaurant (open galley?).

There is/was the Grill on Deck Ten and the Grand Dining Room, a three section restaurant with a two deck mid section on Deck Eight on Radisson Diamond.

She featured reservation only Italian trattoria " Don Vito's '.

She also featured a floating marina with staging area for water sports.

According to Ocean Liner's dining room and what Andy (Gundam X Divider) said, it looks like her interiors will be changed drastically.

What did they do to her? Up to now she seems to be unaltered - it is a horrible idea to paint her pink, but let`s see whether this will happen.

Don't worry too much, it seems that she is not going to become a low class casino ship like most in Hong Kong. Just read from the news that she will have a number of preview cruises to Shantou which are expected to be HK$1500 (around US$200) per person per night , compared to "HK$300 overnight cruise" on most other casino ships.

From what I heard, just the dark blue stripes will be painted blue - the hull remains white I think. I don't think her appearance will be changed much. I just wonder what will they do to the small funnels : flashing lights like OMAR III?

I do have doubts on their expansion. Ships like Radisson Diamond is rare and many ships on the second-hand market are 30-year-old car ferries. So there is little room for them to expand and "deliver exceptional cruise experience exceeding the World's Leading Cruise Lines standard". I believe that Radisson Diamond will just be a jewel in their fleet, but unlikely to be their direction of growth.

Cruiseshipluver, I agree with you. I think it would be sad for any ocean liner or cruise ship to end up as a floating casino.
