Hi everyone,

See here for the website of Asia Cruises, which belongs to Stanley Ho and currently operates the OMAR III (ex-SUN VIKING) in Hong Kong. The Radisson Diamond is now renamed OMAR STAR and will be joining their fleet, but currently there doesn't seem to be any information about her avaliable.

So what do you feel about this "cruise line"? They are ambitious but I don't think that they are a real cruise line, so I put this post on this Cruise Ship board.

Hi Andy,

I saw their website a few days ago. For a casino cruise operation, the website is quite nice.

Interesting is the statement that they plan to expand to other areas in Asia.
Time will tell if they are pursuing the casino cruise route, or if they want to enter the cruise market.
Perhaps a combination of both.
They do have two fine ships at the moment.
I believe you mentioned that Omar III is probably the best of all the casino ships ex-HK.

P.S. Welcome back from Pisces.

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I find it quite annoying to load their website, because I am using dial-up connection.

They are too ambitious I think. Although their ships are quite beautiful, their cruises are not that attractive. Having freshly experienced STAR's 3D2N in contrast, I have a strong feeling that the Omar III 3D2N cruise is "No Cruise Like". With that level of service they are still far away of being "luxury".

Honestly I really get annoyed when seeing those words like "exceeding World's leading cruise line" or something like "going to be Asia's leader in cruise operation" and I don't understand why they use "Luxury goes exploring"... that's too far away. These languages do not sound natural.

But of course Omar III is the best casino ship in HK, let alone Omar Star that's sure.

Regards,
Andy

Is it just me or does Omar III look like a small Disney ship?

Onno, I can see why you say that.
In the picture you posted, she does indeed look very much like a Disney ship sans second stack.

Andy, yesterday I spoke with and had email correspondence with a lady from Asia Cruises.
From what I gathered, the ships will be upgraded as will service. She was most professional and really very delightful. She said that she is sure that I would enjoy an overnight cruise aboard Omar III even though I told her that to me a casino is just for a fun, short visit.

After hearing/reading all this, I now more than ever want to try this ship.

If Stanley Ho puts his mind to something, he will do a top job.
I eagerly await further info regarding Omar Star.

Longer cruises may be offered at a later date.

Regards,
Mike

Hopefully they will be more cruise ship like - at least their website looks quite nice, although difficult to load. Surprisingly they just launch English version.

With her red funnel, black hull and her name (Omar III vs QM2), I feel that she looks like a small Cunard queen .

Oh the poor SUN VIKING what have they done to her. The red funnel is hideous, she looked much better as all white. She still looks good for her age. Would love to have someone bring the RCCL 4 ( SOA, SON, NP and SV) and start a new line.

I was on the Sun Viking Many Many years ago, and if the cabins look as good as the website shows, then they have done a good job, because the way they were (back then) were small and cramped.

That was a problem with those ships, there was not a whole lot of space in the cabins or corridors.

It would be nice to see the 4 sisters in the same fleet once again. I have been on board the (NP and SON) before they left the RCCL fleet as well. Much different from what RCI is now today.

The perks of working as a travel agent then RCCL (then) in Miami. I got to see all of those great "old" ladies of the sea.

This cruise line is something else. It is very elegant and pleasing to the eye. The carpet in the cabins is what caught my eye it was very plush and thick looking. This looks as if it is like someones private yacht verses a casino/cruise ship.
