I'm quite shocked. I've been corresponding with a guy on a yahoo group for crew and he says that today PoA was returned to dry dock after sea trials. This was not in the schedule that the crew onboard knew about. He said there is a lot going on onboard, the theatre techies have been working and it's incredibly high tech, the artisans and painters are doing the most amazing job, the Jean Ann Ryan dancers arrived today to come aboard, and then surprise, they went into dry dock!

The ship proved to be far too ugly and scared all of the fish! She has returned to dry-dock in shame and cannot leave again until the cover of darkness.

Don't forget that the POA is in here trial stage so they are able to test al here instalations and adjust whene need. So if an drydock inspection neede they will do that. Even if this is not in the trial shedual. It's good it showes that they are not puch things up because she is to late finiched.

Greetings Ben.

I think what Maasdam is saying, in a nutshell, is they are doing some fine-tuning.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it to be rare that a ship would be returned to dry dock after trials but it does make sense.

The poor girl is a little gangly looking, but NCL did have little to work with on the outside. I hope the interiors, which matters most to revenue passengers, prove to be stunning, as NCL was able to do some magic there. I kind of like to root for the underdog, and NCL has always had a hodge-podge of odd ships, which does make and interesting fleet, however I think the inconsistency has been their difficulty with the buying public.

When was the last time NCL actually DESIGNED a ship from the keel up with a shipyard? Their ships have for the most part been acquired thru acquisitions:
PoA = Rusting awful design of the first large cruise ship attempt by an American flag line.

Dawn & Jewel Class = Star Cruises gift to help re-invent NCL and make it more sucessful

Sky Class = Rusting hull bought after shipyard bankruptcy and Costa abandons it.

I have to say though one of the most memorable cruises I've taken was on the little NCL Leeward. I loved that ship dearly, but it had a storied past before it's NCL service. In fact, the crew I got to know onboard lovingly called her Leakward, lol.

I really wish success with PoA, despite the fact she looks like the kid in grade school that used to get picked on because she wore "coke bottle" thick eye glasses.

They probably want to make sure that they don't screw anything up (it's bad enough that the overall design is a frightfest). They're under a microscope on this project. There's almost as many people betting on their failure as there are betting on their success.
