We booked our first cruise, leaving in only 338 days! for our 25th anniversary. Having no idea about cruising and before finding this forum, we went with our travel agents recommendation. We got a balcony suite on Royal Carribean's Voyager of the Seas - Eastern Carribean. Everything looks great, the only negative I can see (and this is without any real knowledge is stopping in Haiti - They conveniently call is Hispanolia. (Does that name still apply?)

Just looking for conversation/info.

You are not actually going to Haiti. You are going to Labadee, RCI's private beach there. You will not be mingling with the natives or be in town. It is a secluded beach area on a peninsula with lounges, watersports, a BBQ lunch, ect. It is beautiful, I have been there. Go to RCI's website and check ot out. You can find pictures here in the gallery I am sure.

Welcome aboard, Bill.

Different cruise lines provide different cruise experiences. Royal Caribbean (RCI) are a good mass-market cruise line. However, you will not be getting a refined and ‘intimate’ experience. RCI cater for a wide range of people, including the younger set and families.

Many of RCI’s ships are state-of-the-art. Voyager is one of the worlds biggest cruise ships – more like a floating resort (inc. climbing wall, Ice rink etc.) You will need to do quite a bit of walking if you wish to explore the entire ship.

RCI’s food and service is pretty good, although not the best afloat. However, RCI do represent very good value. A balcony cabin is always a treat.

Do tell the cruise line that it is your anniversary. You can pre-book excursions via he RCI web site, nearer the departure date.

Check out our ‘Readers Reviews’ of this ship, menu left.

Good day Bill! And warmest welcome aboard.
Been there, done that. At least when I went, they called in Labadee. It's a private island part of Haiti owned by RCCL.

AS stated before you won't be mingling with the natives, and may I suggest to you that you DO NOT enter into the market place. Or else be prepared for some high pressure "sales" tactics.

And I do mean high pressure. Like pull you by the arm in to their booths, high pressure selling you things you'll never need..

Other than that, lovely beach, warm Caribbean waters. You'll be served food provided by RCCL, so don't hesitate to eat. Again, it's Voyager's food.

Also, book the wave runners. You'll be running circles around the mother ship. Have a great time!

Ask your Travel Agent ASAP to inform the cruise line. You may well get a complimentary bottle of champagne and/or flowers etc.

You will be able to check your booking details via the RCI web site, using your ref. number (on your confirmation).

Bill congrats on your 25th! My husband and I went on the Explorer of the Seas in 03 (this is basically the sames ship as Voyager) we LOVED it. It is a huge ship but there is so much to do and see. We did go with another couple and walkie talkies would have been useful. We have just booked our next cruise for our 25th for March 06 on the Serenade of the Seas. I can't wait. We also went on the Miracle (Carnival) last year. It was a great ship but RC is our favorite, the staff was so nice and the food was awesome. They will do everything to please you, your wife will love it. The Explorer was the most pampering experience of my life. Also Labadee was great.
