The safest answer in this forum is to say, simply, one that floats.

This question is like opening Pandora's box as it such a generic, subjective one...let's see what some CTrs respond with.

Do you have any further parameters upon which our answers can/ should be based?

The best ship till now (made 1 cruise a/b Costa Romantica and visit some Rotterdam 6, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Club 1) I would say the m.s. Rotterdam 6 spent in 2003 2 days on here here inn Rotterdam and found here unique she against the other 4 have a home coming feeling warm elegant and club like feeling in everthing.

That said the Costa Romantica would stay also in my heart because she was the first wich i sail on.

But the Rotterdam is now by me number 1 that could be chanse depant wich ship would be able to winn over my heart. The test come in july whene i sail on the m.s. Zaandam to Alaska.

The most beatifill exterior off the modern cruise liners is very easy thats m.s. Aurora.

the favorit.

the most beatifull modern exterior.

picture Aurora frome my site.

Wow, I've never seen Aurora's stern, I've seen her docked on the north side of pier 35 which ment that thee was nothing blocking her veiw, she seemed really nice, her stern is nice too.

Well In my opinion, I think Mercury is one of the best, I've only been on 2 cruises so that's all I can say.

those Century clas ships from Celebrity are not that good in exterior design....they are square like mad, and lends to their kinda bulky sides..their lines are rather *hard* and crude

an example of good exterior is P&O's Aurora

Norway

Difficult question, as there are so many factors... HAving been on 32 cruises I'd need to break it down into categories as most are ships that simply aren't the same or in service anymore...

Best cabin: 3 way tie- Radisson Diamond Veranda cabin / Norway Junior suite (the rebuild cabins on the Cinema deck where the 2nd class promenade used to be) / Disney Magic/Wonder Veranda cabin... The Radisson just had everything you'd want in a cabin, right where you'd want it, coupled with a generous veranda. The Norway had INCREDIBLE views right from your bed facing out the HUGE dual windows, while still feeling cozy. The Disney Magic cabin has two bathrooms... what more could you want?!?!

Best Cinema- tie: Norway/Disney Magic/Wonder

Best Showroom- Carnival Fantasy class. Quiet and comfy without being overwhelming with good sightlines and easy access.

Best sunbathing deck- Norwegian Sky. Really nice terraced decks forward.

Best observation lounge: Norwegian Sky. High ceilings big windows and varied entertainments and snacks make for a delightful room.

Most welcoming to return "home" to from tour: Pearl of Scandinavia. The crew would remember your name and personally welcome you back onboard with a cool drink in hand.

Best tender service: Norway

Best food: Island Princess during the 1970's

Overall easiest to navigate around: Fairsky 1980's

Most "Shiplike" experience: Fairwind

Most stable: Norway

Best Disco: Norway. Like Studio 54, only without the coke... Comfy corners, GREAT sound system, but easy to talk to shipmates while off the floor... GREAT bar service.

Best Bingo: Island Princess 1970's. All of the greatest stories, rhymes songs etc, done by the wannabe staff on various CCL,RCI,NCL etc ships stem from the REAL English staffers on this ship... I'm TOTALLY convinced they stood on the shoulders of the Cunarder and P&O crews that came before them, but they gave such sincere and amusing spins to the tales that went with each number called, that it wasn't bingo at all, but a floorshow connected to a game... each day they would add new meanings to each number and tell different stories, that to this day, I haven't witnessed a better shipboard amusement.

Best Squid dishes: Golden Odyssey (This is actually a joke... Every lunch and dinner meal they would have SOME kind of squid preparation, so my father asks the waiter, "BOY! You Greeks must really eat alot of SQUID!" To which the answer was: "I think we eat too much squid...")

Best lido restaurant: Carnival Elation. Roomy, Comfy and easy to reach and navigate, always opened with SOMETHING good to eat. Not exactly as fancy as many a mmodern Princess or RCI ship, but did the job effortlessly and with great humour to the masses that frequent it.

Best "A'la Carte" restaurant: Radisson Diamond. No actual additional charge, but AMAZING dishes, all hand prepared and different every night, with an open air section for balmy evenings.

Best pool deck: Disney Magic/Wonder. Nothing more to be wanted by this ship's pool deck. Something for everyone without having to fight over it... (Deck chairs, sunny or shady spot to sit, option to swim, etc...)

Best Spa facilities: Disney Magic/Wonder. Rainforest spa... one fee for all day use of different specialty saunas, heat beds, showers.. Peppermint and Mango oil scented showers?!?! Enough said... Pure bliss while the children play downstairs...

Best children's programs: Disney Magic/Wonder. Is this really a surprise?

Best tours: Pearl of Scandinavia. Most were included and run AMAZINGLY well. TOTALLY comprehensive with historians onboard and along for the trips. TOTAL coordination with plenty of time to see the points of interest and soak in the culture and minimal time spent in shops...

There are many more "best" aspects, but that's all from me for now... Overall, I'd have to say that Norway, Pearl of Scandinavia and the Disney twins all delivered the best total packages for what you'd book onto them for.

Jonathan (cruisintoday14) asked a simple question: your favourite ship, meaning one ship not a whole list. I know some of you guys love them all, but come on, just answer the question properly so that Jonathan can achieve his goal.

As for me, I don’t have a favourite as yet, as I haven’t cruised on enough ships to give a definitive answer. However, let me say this: I love cruise ships (as long as I don’t get ripped-off) and being on the ocean. That’s it!

Jonathan,

S/S "Norway", with nothing else coming even close.

Mind you, she is certainly not the "best ship" in terms of being the most luxurious ship, but she is a favorite and IMHO the most beautiful ship afloat.

Best,

Raoul

I could never pin it down to just one ship:

Best modern ship: 'Queen Mary 2' and 'Brilliance of the Seas'

Best original Ocean Liner: 'SS Norway'

Best small ship: 'Black Watch'

The Galaxy is still my favoriate after 23 years of crusing. Sun Viking as a sentimental favoriate since she was my first cruise. Sun Princess (and Dawn) as my repeat favoriate, always seem to be booking them for some reason. Sapphire Princess is my favoriate large ship.

Got that right. In reference to a topic that was discussed here some time ago about exterior design, and marketing, the Century Class would be the ones they try and sell you the interiors lol!!

It's very difficult to just pick one ... but QM2 would probably be it based on the ship alone. I just loved her.

Taking into considering a "classic" ship, I think SAGA ROSE and SAGA RUBY are two of my favorites. If I were to actually sail on either of them they might take the 1st place spot from QM2. SAGA RUBY looks especially stunning after her Saga Holidays refit.

Two all time favorites that I have sailed on are MONA LISA (as SEA PRINCESS) and ROTTERDAM V (as REMBRANDT). Were REMBRANDT still sailing today she would probably be my favorite active ship.

An all time favorite is LEONARDO DA VINCI. Obviously no longer with us, but she was my first. You just don't get lines any better than that gorgeous ship!

Ernie
