I was looking at pictures on shipspotting.com and came across this one. Bears a striking resembalance to Black Watch. Look closely at the bow and it looks to be dented and banged up also.shipspotting.com IMAGE OF GRAND LATINO

Jonathan, the reason the ship looks so much like Black Watch is because she is her sister ship.

Originally built as ROYAL VIKING SKY.
Before becoming Grand Latino she was Star Cruises SuperStar Capricorn.

She has been sold to Fred.Olsen Cruises to become BOUDICCA. See This Thread.

There is also one more sister ship originally built as ROYAL VIKING SEA. At one time was Norwegian Star 1. Now sailing as Albatros.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Mike

This ship, now Grand Latino, from the pictures would seem has already had the lounge just behind the forward facing observation lounge turned into extra balcony cabins??

When did this happen? This looks exactly like what Fred Olsen are about to do to Black Watch, but seems they won't have to with this ship?? So Ex Norwegian Star 1 will be the only sister left with her origional public rooms on that upper most deck...

Yes she has. I do not know when. She has some other additional cabins to Black watch, as well.
See this other post:
HERE

The Deck plans for BW (post and pre-refit) plus Boudiccia (post refit) are all on the Olsen web site.

GRAND LATINO had the addition balcony cabins added during the conversion from SUPERSTAR CAPRICORN to G.L.

The funnel looks very much like QE2's, very similar shape and form.

SydneyBoy,

all three ships will be lacking the lounge from later this year, as the "Albatros" will also have balcony cabins installed there this upcoming fall. Also, like "Black Watch", she will receive new main engines.

Best,

Raoul

Will this be the "same" refit als for the Olsen sisters?

BTW: Didn`t all three have engine problems at the same time some years ago?

Ernst,

I'm not 100% sure as to the extent of the planned refurbishment of the "Albatros". Fact is that she obviously cannot go any faster than 16 knots or so at this time. This resulted in frequent delays through last year's summer season. For this year, her itineraries have been amended in order to reflect the lower than expected service speed.

I will visit the ship on Friday - maybe I will have some more information afterwards.

Best,

Raoul

Interesting to see that over time these ships (even though owned by different companies over the years) keep evolving in the same way. To me this says how good the original concept of these ships were and the power to adapt.
