Sadly not (the furthest I'm going is over to the Isle of Wight to visit my mum for a couple of days). But I saw her arrive tonight. She's alongside Berth 101, port side to, with her bow pointing downriver. Makes a fantastic sight from Mayflower Park.

Have a good trip, but tell me is this a "one off" or is she based at S/ton for the summer?

Phil.

After this, she's doing about 13 two-weekers -- mostly on the Med run as far as Civitavecchia, but with a couple down to the Canaries.

It's a big thing for RCCL, giving the UK a ship for a season to see if it works -- shows great confidence in the UK cruise market.

Nor me but I was led to believe I would be on it with a friend only he never had the decency to tell me he'd changed his mind. After months of waiting, came out with feeble excuses. I hope you have a great time.

Isn't Jewel based in Harwich or Dover or somewhere for European cruising too?

Yes, Jewel's running some out of Harwich up to the Baltic.

Sorry to hear of your let-down, Patsy. Sadly I don't think I'll be able to smuggle you aboard...!

No, they don't have steamer trunks any more, do they? I can't wait to hear all about it. I'm just sat here waiting for it to pass the house. I see it seems to be leaving late. Perhaps you'll be able to shed some light on that. The radar was down. Could it have been anything to do with that? Bon voyage and fingers crossed for nice weather.

I wonder what your thoughts were Steve.. or maybe you can't say too much? I hope you had a good trip, but I have read a couple of comments on this cruise saying that everyone needs a good shake-up and that the dining room was a disaster

I'm sure Steve will tell it as it is!

You would think the 'Legend' crew would be a well oiled machine? Maybe not?

RCI food and service is not the finest afloat, but it's not normally bad either, especially when you considere their fares, which are pretty reasonable.

Sounds like a review not to be missed. I can't wait! Real experiences are much better that journalists and especially holiday programmes.

The problem is that Steve is a journalist, and for the Sun at that!

However, we must feel privalidged that Steve occasionally writes here for free.

In 2004 the 'Legend' was getting reviews like thos:

Where to begin with the food? every night there was a different event (many selections to choose from), meaning there would be a different menu a night. The food was amazing and so was the service, you rarely had to ask twice. The buffet was great as well, they always had different things to choose from.

(From our 'Readers Review' section, menu left)

I'm back from a post-cruise couple of days away from a screen ... full report will follow within a couple of days ...

For now, let me just say -- ship-wise, I can't think of a criticism worth mentioning and I'll be giving Legend Of The Seas an unreserved and enthusiastic thumbs-up.

(By the way, we journos don't get any special handling or treatment while we're onboard -- the crew don't know who we are and we get the same service as everyone else. Honest.)

Welcome back, Steve! Have you ever thought of working on one of those holiday programmes? Or would they be more editorially strict? I can't wait to read your review. Make me green with envy! LOL!

Thank you Steve... the full list of compaints has been posted, some are not really complaints, just individual niggles, but her dining experience was not good, 3 course only, taking over 2 hours, few veg and 'just warm'. I have since read another not so good recent review on Legend dining, chicken, chicken & chicken but there seem to be very few up to date reviews on her about. I get the impression that this is yet another older, 'no longer suitable for the US market' ship, being passed off to Europe. Why don't they send a Voyager Class to sail ex UK for the summer? ..... I might book then.

Actually the VOYAGEROF THE SEAS will be based in Barcelona next summer--it's only a matter of time until they base one of her Class in the UK. (Of course they may be considered old "has-beens" by then! )

Yes, I read that Linerrich, but I hope she does something more than the usual Western Med itinerary: I may then be interested in having a look.

I have now read 2 completely opposite views on Legend, one saying she looks fresh, clean & smart, and the other saying how shabby and dirty she is.. LOL, what can one believe!

The ‘Voyager class’ was designed for the generally calm Caribbean sea and hot climate. The Med’s climate in the summer is reasonably similar, calm seas and lots of sun.

If Voyager sailed from the UK, even in the summer months, she might well meet some mediocre temperatures and unpredictable seas. The amount of sunbathing, the use of pools and hence sale of drinks would often be compromised by our climate. We also do not have a party ‘crowd’ as yet, to fill her.

I think it is unlikely to happen.
