Southampton has a very different face when the sun is out, as does most places. We might not be a top tourist destination, but our city has so much to offer for those who take the time to not take the M27 or M3 straight out of the port!
Many people think are location on the globe is similar to New York, but its a lot further north than that!
The only reason we don't have winters like Canada etc is the Gulf Stream.

Yes, when we went to north america a few years ago I was surprised to find that Boston is on the same latitude as Tuscany, while NYC is almost as far south as Naples. Very different from Blighty!

Well, that and the fact that we're on the western edge of the continent - the prevailing winds will always come from the SW, and will therefore come from across the ocean. This should be above freezing anyway - say, 4 degress naturally - and the gulf stream boosts that to maybe 7 degrees. Whereas New York, for all its southerly latitude, experiences south-westerly winds from across the continent which can be well below freezing in winter. I suppose for them, an easterly wind (in winter) is a warm wind - it's blowing off the Atlantic.

Yes but our idea of a hot sunny day is NOT the same many other countries!
