I think the deployment of Dawn Princess is excellent for Australia and is the type of cruising we deserve! But lets not all jump around and praise Carnival Corp for placing this ship in our waters because they are only trying to make a few extra bucks off her. For example at the moment Dawn Princess is selling cruises out of Alaska, a 7 night cruise on her, in the lowest grade twin is, in Aussie Dollars $1227. Now in Australia Pacific Star or Sky does 7 night cruises from brisbane to up the coast and out to the south pacific, we pay in the lowest grade twin, on the chaepest 7 night cruise $1924 or if you chose a 4 berth its 1240. So we are paying the same amount of money for a 4 berth on the old tonnage as a twin on the superior dawn overseas, and a extra $697 for the same grade twin. Now Carnival Corp say hay why don't we move Dawn down under and double the fares. Hopefully Dawn isn't as expensive as the Pacific Princess as it isn't as exclusive. It should be priced at the very highest the same as the diamond/ sapphire/ star princess, as it offers the same product. But above all I'm glade to c this ship come down under, and would definately chose her over the old tonners. And with any luck maby Carnival Corp / P&O Australia will prove me wrong and charge more reasonable than what I'm predicting

Until there is some real competition in the Australian cruise market, expect to pay premium prices. Princess is putting Dawn Princess down under becuse she can get higher per diems here than elsewhere.

ive just been looking at the sydney ports webpage and noticed the arrival dates of Dawn Princess.

Interestingly there is 30day gap between visits early on in the piece... any idea what this is? circumnavigation of australia?!

the rest are typical 10-12night cruises... presumably up to noumea/vanuatu etc any other thoughts/ideas?

I was looking at the Dawn Princess, and it really is such an amazing step up from our trio of fun ships, but how much would you expect to pay for an average length cruise (9-11nights?) in standard outside accommodation? Any thoughts??

s?

yes the ship will be doing a 30 day circumnavigation round aust, think this will be marketed to australians, as the Pacific Princess circumnavigation was marketed to international guests and not included in the Aust brochure think this one will, don't no if dawn will like Pacific circumnavigate before its arrival

the reason i ask is because P&O Aus are yet to schedule a circumnavigation of australia. The closest theyve been is repositioning the pac sky from syd/melb to singapore.

The pacific princess one mentioned above was actually done by a special charter. Given this sold out very quickly, P&O aus may have finally realised there is a demand and hence has scheduled the dawn to do one?

this from an internet agency/newsletter

quote:
CIRCUMNAVIGATION OF AUSTRALIA 28NTS - DAWN PRINCESS 07NOV06
Dawn Princess will sail from Sydney 07 November 2006 and head north to circumnavigate Australia and finish back in Sydney 05 December 2006. This will sell out quickly (particularly the starboard cabins) so register with us NOW! Don't miss the boat as so many did with Pacific Princess' circumnavigation.

I would believe so too since the portside will alway face land, but this doesn't mean the starboard side doesn't get its fair share of good views when the ship enters port or while docking.

******

Cheers
