Yes.. it's a really nice site with lots of pictures. I've spent many a lunch hour just staring. Mom always told me not to stare, but I don't listen this time cool:

quote:Originally posted by Fairsky:This photo is small, but look at the difference between Aurora's prow and POA's. One of the most beautiful modern cruise ships beside one of the least beautiful:
You are right POA looks like iff she is designed as a big ferry. She looks odd with that short bow compared with the grand Aurora. I would be shamed as owner off POA iff i saw this picture.

Ah yes... but "new" doesn't forgive ugly... you don't need to pull the bag off to realize she's unattractive!

You are right. But sometimes it is worth to try such things. I saw my taste changing over the years, not too dramatically, but there are some ships I did not like some years ago, which I find acceptable today. (O.K. we have the problem that a lot of nice vessles had to go, so an "ugly" older vessels is suddenly in a more prominent position)Every step towards a more innovative cruise ship design is good for me. I have to admit that this is not a big step, and does not involve a lot of innovation. But let`s see.
Can we really blame her original owners and designer for such an awful short forecastle? As I recall, her midsection was all that was completed when she was towed to Germany from the Mississippi shipyard (there are photos of her center portion on the shipyard website). I wonder if NCL could have altered her original design somewhat and attached a longer forecastle and bow. It really looks terrible when compared to Aurora's bow IMO. Imagine one high wave coming over her bow and washing out all those forward rooms, but I guess the change of that happening while she is cruising off the coasts of Hawaii are remote.

Are there no waves near Hawaii?

Yes, but that can happen to Aurora as well. From that small pic we can't really tell if Pride of America's forecastle is higher than that of Aurora's. One thing is for certain, the bows are designed differently, and unless we have the tank test results we don’t know for sure which of the two bows is best in rougher than normal seas. One thing is for sure she’ll float.

Cheers
I still can’t get warm feelings when thinking of this ship, exterior is unnecessarily ugly for a modern ship, her themed interiors don’t appeal either but I first need to see some good finished pictures before I dub the ship POU (Pride of Ugliness)

Don’t be so sure, remember what happened last year? She capsized and sank during a big storm, okay the water was not so deep so she did not go completely under water, but still her lower decks flooded.
If it happened during a cruise then people could have been killed.

Onno, there were holes in her hull. Any cruise ship with such holes would do the same.

She will be more of a coastal cruise ship. Cruising around Hawaii within sight of land at most times. Her longest deep sea voyage will be her delivery cruise across from L.A..

But there are still the same waves.
