One of the Vice Presidents of Star Cruises is onboard (sorry did not get his name) Plans are for Star Virgo to go to India and cruise to Maldives and for the NCL ship (forgot which one must be the sun) that is to transfer to Star to dry dock and have one entire deck converted to a casino and cruise from Singapore. The numerous resturants on board make for a large selection however the $50-$70 cover for one choice once you get in I believe is silly give me more choices for $70. Ship is in very good shape and final count is 886 passengers. Will return to Singapore tonight at 7:00pm strange time to get back from a cruise but get the run of the ship till then (day at sea).

Hi Steeplechase, I hope you are enjoying your cruise. Thanks for sharing the "onboard news". I am shocked to hear that the NORWEGIAN SEA will be turned into a gambling boat with the entire deck casino . Surprised that the VIRGO will not stay in Singapore and wait for competetion (that being the PACIFIC SKY). I would have thought that NORWEGIAN SEA might go India and test the new market...why send a new mega ship to a new market??

Hi Steeplechase,

Glad you are finding the Virgo an enjoyable experience and hopefully you will choose to sail Virgo again in the future.

Don't quite understand the high cover charge in the alternative restaurants. I do know that a dining credit of 100 Singapore Dollars is extended to every cabin as a gesture of good will in light of the altered itinerary. But if the cover charges are so high, it surely limits the number of times and restaurants you can dine at. Guess I will enjoy an excellent Italian dinner at Palazzo Restaurant perhaps just once, when I am aboard.

The SuperStar Virgo going to India makes no sense to me. I did hear before, that Norwegian Sea was the most likely choice to start up the Indian cruise market. But, with Star Cruises, quick changes are the norm. I can understand Star wanting to enlarge the casino space aboard their Asian based ships, but to have an entire deck converted into casinos is a bit much.

I will be aboard Virgo 06 Feb for the Chinese New Year Cruise. (very looking forward to it)
I will ask my friends aboard if there has been any new developements concerning deployment of ships and this casino deck conversion aboard Norwegian Sea

Will post my findings when I hear further info.

Regards,
Mike--in a pleasant, sunny TaiShan

I always thought that the Virgo should head East to N. America, to sail under NCL. And that the Wind/Dream could go to Asia in her place

SUPERSTAR VIRGO would have been a perfect choice for the Australian market but it is not surprising that Star intends to deploy her to India.

India is the next frontier, it is a large untapped market that should be easy picking for an Asian owned/based cruise company. SUPERSTAR VIRGO could cruise India for a much longer season than it would if it was deployed to Australia, where it would only have 5 months instead of the 8 (with the exception of June-September, hurricane and monsoon season). This new market would be targeted to all customers, though I can see Europeans as the number one choice. Star has also bought into Valuair a Singaporean budget carrier. This airline will eventually fly Star’s passengers to its homeports, which we can speculate to be either Chennai or Mumbai. We mustn’t forget that the Indian government is getting serious about cruising. They have intentions to build terminals in many of the touristy port cities, and who knows, maybe Star will go into partnership with them.

Cheers
