lol great animation! although a little simplified!

when is she due for this treatment?

this is similar to 'ultra voyager', but that is from scatch...primarily a voyager ship, cut and extended.

yes i think that it would be like that, all they have to do in the animation is to change the ship to a eagle class and then do the same animation and *presto* an "ultra Voyager" class vessel

Lets be honest, considering the resources available to RCI, it's not a particularly informative or a detailed animation, is it?

I actually think the one by NCL/Lloyd Werft is better. They made one a few years ago of the Norwegian Majesty being stretched, and was downloadable as a screensaver. It can be found here:

Malcom, the title of your post started gears going around in my head. Thus emerged a ditty called "Stretching Enchantment" to the tune of "Waltzing Matilda."
Ahem:

"Once a jully cruiseship sailed the oceans far and wide.
Carried her tourists over the seas,
But her owners thought her undersize,
Minus some amenities,
And she was lacking in large balconies"

"Stretching Enchangment, Stretching Enchantment,
Let's stretch Enchantment for more Balconies!
And they cut, and they sliced, and slid another section in,
"Lets stretch Enchantment as much as we please!"

"Down came Mickey Arinson, riding in his limousine,
Up came accountants, ONE, TWO, THREE.
Why'd you put more balconies, on a ship that's big enough?
It seems to beat the hell outa me.

[it needs a transition stanza here -sorry it's late]

"Stretching Enchantment, Stretching Enchantment,
Let's stretch Enchantment for more Balconies!
With a spa, and a gyn, and a soda fountain over there.
"We'll stretch Enchantment" as much as we please.

I could go on but I am sure it will get worse. I shall let others add verses.

ENCHANTMENT OF THE SEAS is expected to arrive at Keppel Verolme [Botlek] Shipyard at Rozenburg near Rotterdam on Saturday May 14, 2005 for lengthening.

In the meantime the 22,2 metres mid section, built by Kvaerner Masa at Turku, departed Turku on April 24, 2005 on top of the pontoon SMITBARGE 1 and in tow of the tug VARIUS, they arrived at the yard May 1, 2005. Photo's on arrival:

Thanks for the photos.

It seems like a whole lot of money and work for only a modest increase in capasity. I know Enchantment cannot get much longer without becoming Post-Panamax, but am I correct to think that this new mid-section is smaller than other recent stretchings?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the end results- and if RCI will continue to stretch other vision-class ships.

I can't remember how many extra cabins, but even a modest number, filled each week with passengers amounts to a lot of extra income in a 5 year period, for example.

This section looks like it will add an additional 48 new outside cabins, about 32 balcony deluxe cabins, plus probably some inside cabins. That will certainly add lots of revenue each week, which all adds up, as Malcolm said.

Didnt they say that this new section would house a new atrium or make that original one bigger?

Cost around €45 million and increased capacity by 151 cabins. Yes, mid-section is shorter than other recent stretchings.

Ther´s no new atrium. The section houses Boleros Bar and a big jewelry shop. An interesting thing I found onboard were self laundry rooms on each of the cabin decks, a RCI innovation.

For a moment, I thought that was the completed ship. I was thinking that it looked a bit boxy!

RCI will obviously not recoup their expenditure in the short term, but they obviously will during the life of the ship. Those extra passengers will obviously buy extra drinks and excursions etc. which must represent a good percentage of RCI's income.

I heard that the rates for the barge portion of this itinerary were discounted heavily.

Entertainment was limited but the normally obstructed view cabins were not obstructed (see picture)...
