I don’t know if it is mentioned already but on the P&O site is now a 2 minute sea trial video of the new Arcadia. It shows the ship sailing from all different angles and nice footage shot from a helicopter.

The link is on their site: http://www.pocruises.co.uk/

Nice link Onno!

So she did get a P&O funnel then, and not the cunard one painted yellow?

I don't even understand the competition?

She looks like a beautiful P&O ship.... Perhaps even beautiful enough to have bore the name Canberra... But, I know everyone is waiting for a QM2 scale ship for that! Cheers to Arcadia!

I cannot see a close-up photo of the funnel, but from what I can see, it looks like a P&O style funnel. The Cunard style side shields and wind scoops have been removed but the angled portion at the aft base portion of the stack remains. This Vista class could have been much worse, they do have a bit of a forecastle (as opposed to a beak like some Carnival and MSC ships) and they have a certain sleekness to them. Looks good in P&O's simple and elegant livery.

Looks just like another Vista class too me. Certainly not ugly, but not very original either!

I agree Malcome. I think the HAL vessels are the best looking off all included the Costa / Carnival ships. I don't like the extra decks it brakes the long lines off the vessel. Also the radar mast is to long. Looks top heavy. the funnel is just a reone Cunard type funnel, a Oriana type funnel would have look better. Buth she looks fine not more not less.

This latest video looks like it was shot on film in 16x9 format, probably for use as promotional material judging from the camera angles and choreography of the shots, and then simply transferred and squeezed into the 4x3 aspect ratio of video. Whenever this is done without "letterboxing" (black bars at top and bottom of frame) or "Pan and Scanning" (chopping off the left and right sides but filling the frame vertically, then sliding the picture to capture the area of interest) it makes everything look MUCH taller than it really is.

While I agree with Malcolm and Maasdam that the Vista Class is not very attractive a series of ships and really DOES look topheavy, in the other PROPERLY formatted images I've seen of Arcadia, her taller mast and funnel actually helps balance her looks. I also agree however that an Oriana/Aurora styled funnel would make her more P&O like. The Cunard vestiges don't match as well, but either way, it appears better than the squat winged funnel on the CCL or the stovepipe on the Costa ships. The dark HAL hull also helps the Vista ships look longer and better proportioned, but even without that, the Arcadia seems to hold her own pretty well. It's interesting to note here that the various openings on the Promenade Deck forward look stranger (too fussy and too many odd shapes) on the white hull than on the dark hull of the HAL ships, where they appear lighter due to the white paint of the bulkheads behind the openings.

She looks like another floating stack of balconies. Nothing special. I also agree that she looks top heavy (partially because of the new upper deck restaurant). I think the Vista Class looks better in HAL livery. The dark colored hull on the HAL vessels helps to decrease the focus on the height of the ship.

I do commend P&O for making information on this new ship so readily available. Their website really has great features and is one of the best out there.

...only two things would get me onboard of her; 1) A free tour 2) A very reasonable cruise fare coupled with some interesting ports of call.

My second point (very reasonable fare) is most unlikely, as P&O are pretty expensive, in my opinon.

22 Knots is the 'service speed'.

Check out P&O specials. I booked onto this ship when they were offering 50% off and I must say I thought the prices were very reasonable then!. In actual fact I worked out that Arcadia can be travelled on for per diems which are just over half QE2 and about 1/3rd of QM2, and less than a night in a cheap london hotel.

I don't doubt you, but I am restricted to peak holiday times anyway - which are always expensive.

I am a little sceptical of some cruise lines 50% off deals - it can simply mean that the brochure price was inflated by 50% (or more) to start with!

By the way, I happen to think QE2 is overpriced, and the QM2 extremely overpriced, so I would expect most other cruise lines be offering at least half to third of their fares, with the exception of the 5-star brands.

It will be interesting to see how the interior deign of the Arcadia works out. In general it is very similar to the HAL vista ships with some public rooms and bars changing places.
