I like British inspired names such as:
Britannic
Great Britain
and my Canadian Pacific knock offs in place of 'Empress', substitute 'Princess'
Princess of Wales
Princess of England
Princess of Scotland
Princess of Ireland
Princess of France
etc.
and just return to great classic names such as:
Homeric
Olympic
Majestic
Mauretania
Aquitania
etc.

Difficult to say, a name is a strange thing, must be original, but has sometimes double layers of meanings, the name must also reflect the ship, and more importantly the owner/shipping/company and fleet.

a suffix like "-ic", "-ia", "-dam", "-ville" or "-land" is always good - it immediately places the ship in the fleet, but also being on its own (other than name of company + word).

The name "Etheldreda" flashes to my mind, I don't know, but I'd love to sail on a MS Etheldreda, it is a serious ship.
And female names, which have a speical touch to it like : Agatha, Diana, Sidonia, , Zenobia

I always thought "Rembrandt" a good name : presently there are some ships carrying artists names.

There are also composers.

So my fleet :

flagship
MS "Etheldreda"

Big ships

Rubens
Rembrandt
Renoir
Rothko

Intermediate

Mahler
Mussorgski
Meyerbeer
Monteverdi

smaller luxury yachlike ships

Agatha
Diana
Sidonia
Zenobia

Another options would be nautical names with "Ic" : Oceanic - Adriatic - Pacific - Atlantic - Indianic - Baltic - Nordic - Neptunic

Nice, and with a classical touch would be mountains and mountain ranges
Himalaya (which I always thougt a beautiful ships name, and one with legal history) - Karakoram - Anapurna - Ruwenzori - Kilimandjaro - Alpen - Rockies - Taurus - Fuji - Andes

the interior decoration could be focused, and the rock climbing wall wouldn't be a gimmick

It s a fun exercise

second wife off King Willem 2 and Regentes
Koningin Wilhelmina
Dual there where 2 Queens 1 Queen consort to King Willem 1 and Queen Wilhelmina head off state frome 1898 till 1948
Koningin Juliana
Koningin Beatrix

After Dutch Province Capitols.
Netherlands Capital Lines (White hull, Red white bleu wave styled smokestck)

Haarlem (Noord Holland)
Den Haag (Zuid Holland)
Breda (Brabant)
Maastricht (Limburg)
Middelburg (Zeeland)
Assen (Drenthe)

President Bush!

Heh, heh!!!

On a more seriously note, I like local names such as a series of Gulf of Maine names: Quoddy, Fundy, etc...

I also like Amitie, from a Van Gogh painting.

I also like sea-wind names such as Atlantico, Pacifico, Arctico, Aegean, Mediterranean, Westerly, Easterly, Seabreeze, Mistral, Chinook, Karayel, Lodos, Levanto, Zephyros, however there would be many of these.

Female names with local character are fine too, such as Stella Solaris. I find male names to be usually unappropriate, except in some cases (5 poets of ex BLASCO was an exception).

Ocean Chancellor is original,

could be more of a class, like Montespan/Maintenon/Pompadour
sorry,
better names, than those proposed these days.

At one port (I think it was Manila) in the 1960's we were docked right across from a beautiful and well maintained Belgian general cargo ship named "BRUEGEL" or "BRUEGELS", for Pieter Bruegel, the famous Flemish painter.

Nice name for a ship.

I have always liked the Inman line "City of" names and also the short-lived Spirit of .... theme from P&O. I think Spirit of New York, Spirit of Paris, Spirit of London, Spirit of New Orleans etc. would be great and would allow each ship to have a specific decorative theme (though not hopefully executed by Mr Farcus).

I would also suggest famous female rulers - Cleopatra, Dido, Victoria, Cleopatra, Guinevere etc.

All cruiselines claim they offer a heavenly experience. So why not name ships after mythical paradises ?

A nice idea.

We could let Joe Farkus do one ship, 'City of Las Vegas'!
