It's the exact same funnel .... they just chopped the "wing tips" off. I agree it looked far better with the Carnival funnel.

I agree that its the inside that counts, but many people just judge the ship's exterior and how big it is. But what they've done to the funnel is just hideous.

The front part of the funnel is also a little bit strange...

Its square-ish and painted in a lighter blue than the back part.

The funnel appears to have had more done than just removing the Carnival tradmark wings. It look like it was slightly squared-off at the front in a similar style to Oriana's funnel. This could have been done to give the ship a more unique look as well as a larger flat section for the new logo to be applied.

If you look at this picture posted by P&O, the back is still round.

The picture Maasdam posted clearly shows no markings on the squared-part.

I guess we are going to have to wait for clearer photos of the ship and her funnel. The funnel front looks like the original Carnival funnel (lower portion) in some photos, yet squared-off in others. The light could be playing a trick on the eyes and making it look different from various angles.

lasuvidaboy, i am pretty sure that is the same funnel she had wen she was the jubileeall they did was paint the funnel and take out the signatured whale tail. Wen u look at the pics propperly u can see that the white "pole" on top of the mast that has the navigational lights on it (white lights) is still in the same place as it was wen it was the jubilee. So, in conclusion, its the same funnel and i guess if it des loko a bit squarish at times i guess that has to do with the light hitting it.

what sort of height are we talking about? more specifically what will the clearance be from the sydney harbour bridge? -(tidal factor?)

In one sence I agree with Maasdam...Jubilee was a very nice looking ship, well proportioned, although the inside was a bit dull and dark.
Have you however noticed the big change ...look at the stern...they have welded two big sections to each side to "square it off" . I presume to add stability

Those are the pontoons added during her conversion into Pacific Sun. I am not sure why she was considered un-stable in the first place for these to be needed-Could be the stern was built up. I cruised once on her sister ms Holiday about 5 years ago and the interiors were vintage mid 1980s. Lots of mauves and greys along with other dark colors of that vintage-and the cabins were worse. Not at all attractive internally IMO.

I agree with you about the attractiveness of the HOLIDAY-class ships pre-refit. Not surprising that Carnival chose NOT to update the interiors as these three ships were/was/are making money for them. Hey, as long as Joe Public are ok with the interiors, thats all matters.

I remember that a 10 years ago (and more) this ship consider to be very attractive and modern do does the Holiday as you can see in this early artist rendering , issue in the mid 80's:

this next picture is among the most popular & used pictures of Carnival ships :

I much prefer the look of the Holiday Class as opposed to the Fantasy Class. I just think the ship looks better proportioned. I sailed on the HOLIDAY on her second or third cruise. I was very impressed and she was the hot ticket at the time. Boy have times changed!

It's interesting to note that HOLIDAY was built with the aft "pontoons" from day one. JUBILEE and CELEBRATION were not. I'm not sure why Carnival felt the need to add them to PACIFIC SUN now? Maybe because the waters off Australia can be very rough? They can also be rough off the coast of Los Angeles and JUBILEE sailed that route for years.

I sailed on JUBILEE from LA to Mexico back in 1996. I thought the ship handled well .... even in some rough seas.

Ernie - interested to see how they finish off that smoke stack.

i can think way they add the ship to Pacific Sun .
it is probably because the ship 'got tired' and getting older each year (almost 20 years now) and they probably think that she is not good enogh for the fast growing , modern fleet , just what they did with the Tropicale.

probably that is wat they are doing. Probably they jus wanted to get the ship into service and then at a later date they will finish the funnel?

My guess is that while the P. SUN is enroute to Australia, her funnels and interiors will be worked on. Hopefully everything will be done as she sails into the harbor

I am still a bit confused on this

"duck tail extension"

I have searched the net for pics of Jubilee, now Pacific Sun,to try and see before and after shots of the stern.

Does any one out there have any pics of this transformation?

Hi bmajor. I found this picture of the JUBILEE taken by Raoul Fiebig of Das Ruderhaus.

Compare this aft/stern shot to the PACIFIC SUN picture posted above.

HOLIDAY was built by Aalborg Vaerft though JUBILEE and CELEBRATION were built by Kockums.
