She's in the locks again right now. I'm not sure yet- but it appears the wings are gone! The Carnival funnel has been butchered!

Indeed the Carnival funnel is history. She has a straight light blu funnel now and is decoreted with a yellow stripe on the sides. Unfortunally I don't now how to save a webcam pic (sorry guys)

The winged funnel is a Carnival trademark, so they would change it when their vessels change ownership. (The Tropicale's funnel was changed when she went to Costa.) Also, by keeping the original winged funnel under a new operation, it would be a constant reminder that this is an older, hand-me-down ship, regardless of how updated she is internally.

Similar precedent to this is Royal Caribbean's Viking Crown lounges, which had to be removed from the original 3 ships when they went on to new owners.

Rich,

Actually, only Nordic Prince and Song of Norway had the VC's removed. RCCL did not require them to be removed from the Sun Viking or Song of America.

Tim,
Thanks for that info! I knew Song of America's lounge was too integrated to be removed, but did not realize Sun Viking kept her lounge.

The blue and yellow paint on her hull doesn't look too bad....I am glad the Carnival funnel is gone, but the holes/cage-like holes on the top really bugs me... I can't wait to see more pictures once she arrives down under

Thanks Phil for posting that picture! What happened to the "Pacific Sun" on the funnel (as shown in earlier renderings)? I am not used to seeing a semi-Carnival funnel without the wings...

hmmm i think i can see a little yellow on the funnel (the angle is no good) but if its like the Pacific Sky, the letters SUN will be written fairly large on the funnel.

Im not sure if the skinny/angled funnel suits the ship... maybe ill wait until i see more photos before i make up my mind

Many thanks to all who have contributed to the Suns voyage to OZ.......
I still wonder about the
'Duck Tail" extension
and ponder how this addition will improve her stability in our waters?

Looks like the shipyard removed the original top third of the funnel (the portion with the trademark wings) and added a more conventional top section.

Glad they turned the cam, & someone got some better grabs. I did mail and ask them to, but couldn't stay watching any longer.
She looks a bit 'lost' without the wings, but I am sure one will get used to it and then prefer her like she is, eventually.
What day does she arrive in Australia? Will someone be there to 'greet' her and take some proper pictures?
Pam

Louy, the PACIFIC SUN was the former JUBILEE. P&O Australia/Carnival added the sponsons.

You can tell a bit what the ducktails look like from the pictures in PamM's second post. They look none too good! You can see a bit of the curvature of the stern, and then a straight bit starts, which is the ducktails. There are better ways to do that (see HOLIDAY DREAM ex-EUROPA, and C. COLUMBUS).

She looks rather odd without the wings on the funnel. Actually now the funnel almost looks too small for her. Does anyone know if the Pacific Sun kept its registry in the Bahamas/Panama or was she reflagged to the U.K. like Pacific Sky?
