Gang;

I will start my employment as a professor at the Maritime Faculty of the Istanbul Technical University in January. As some of you might now, they are the owners of the ex-liner, now training ship, the M.V. Akdeniz, one of the oldest vessels afloat in very good condition. Although I cannot give details, I have recently heard that her future is somewhat good. There are no plans to get rid of her in the foreseeable future. She will undergo a drydocking op very soon for small repairs and usual maintenance. She is currently anchored off Tuzla, near Istanbul but she will be safely docked under breakwater protection at the campus in the near future. She will remain operational but will also be used for other purposes such as scientific conferences, etc...

More later as things become official.

Congratulations on your appointment Ata bet you are looking forward to it.
MV Akdeniz looks a lovely vessel; I haven't been able to glean much info on her though & only 3 photos. This one must be older than the 2nd? Both from www.tdf.itu.edu.tr but the corresponding pages, or any pages, seem to have disappeared. World Ships has a lovely one. 1955, 7864gt

I can't see any on your site ?

Not yet Pam! I have some beautiful old and new postcards of hers but nothing that I took that is worth showing. I only make pages for vessels that I have nice photos of so Akdeniz will have to wait until next year, during which you can bet you will see lots and lots of good pictures of hers!

PamM;

Didn't you say "Good things come to all who wait"!!!

I added three photographs of M.V. Akdeniz to the Photo Gallery under Classic Ships Still in Service. She still looks good and her future looks Ok too for now. She will be moved to a more protected area and there are some plans that I will not disclose as of now.

Enjoy the sleek lines of a classic 50 year old lady!
