«L’accordo con Carnival - ha confermato oggi l’amministratore delegato di Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono - è senza precedenti. Questa collaborazione ha raggiunto infatti volumi che non hanno eguali in un rapporto cliente/fornitore nel comparto delle navi da crociera. Fino a oggi Fincantieri ha consegnato ventinove navi ai vari marchi del gruppo Carnival, per un valore di circa dieci miliardi di dollari e con questo accordo le navi in portafoglio ammontano a dodici, per un valore complessivo di ulteriori sei miliardi di dollari».
L’intesa comprende la costruzione presso il cantiere navale di Sestri Ponente di una nave di classe Carnival Conquest di 110 mila tonnellate di stazza lorda per Carnival Cruise Lines e la realizzazione presso lo stabilimento di Monfalcone di una nave della classe Caribbean Princess di 116 mila tonnellate di stazza lorda per Princess Cruises. La consegna delle due navi è prevista nella primavera del 2007. Entrambe le commesse sono in dollari: quella relativa alla costruzione nel cantiere genovese ha un valore di circa 500 milioni di dollari; la costruzione che sarà intrapresa a Monfalcone ha un valore di circa 525 milioni di dollari.
Altre due navi da crociera con le stesse caratteristiche verranno costruite negli stessi stabilimenti per essere utilizzate probabilmente dalle compagnie europee del gruppo Carnival. La consegna è prevista nella primavera del 2008. Questi due ultimi contratti sono invece quotati in euro. Inoltre Carnival ha un’opzione della durata di un anno per decidere a quale marchio del gruppo dovranno essere consegnate le due unità. Il costo finale delle due navi sarà rispettivamente di 475 milioni e 490 milioni di euro.
L’accordo include anche la riprogettazione della Queen Victoria, che sarà costruita a Marghera per Cunard Line, con una lunghezza maggiore di 11 metri rispetto al progetto originale e un tonnellaggio di 90mila tsl. La nave, che sarà consegnata nell’estate del 2007 - ha precisato Fincantieri - avrà stile e caratteristiche simili a quelle delle unità maggiori della società armatrice. La riprogettazione eleverà il costo finale della nave a 340 milioni di euro più 95 milioni di dollari.
La collaborazione preferenziale tra Fincantieri e Carnival prevede anche lo sviluppo di programmi per nuove navi, tra cui quello denominato "Pinnacle project", che dovrebbe portare alla realizzazione di un prototipo di circa 180.000 tsl per Carnival Cruise Lines, destinata ad essere la nave passeggeri più grande al mondo.
Il presidente e amministratore delegato di Carnival, Micky Arison, ha detto che lo speciale rapporto con Fincantieri ha consentito di porre le basi per il programma di nuove costruzioni per il 2007 e 2008. A proposito dell’ordine di navi gemelle di altre già in esercizio, Arison ha aggiunto: «in termini economici attualmente queste due classi di navi consentono di ottenere dei ritorni tra i più alti del settore».
«Per i nostri marchi statunitensi - ha aggiunto Arison - è importante costruire navi ad un costo in dollari ragionevole, specialmente con l’attuale rapporto non favorevole dollaro-euro. Al contempo dobbiamo continuare a reinvestire nei nostri marchi europei per sviluppare l’attività crocieristica in quell’area e mantenere la posizione di leadership di questi marchi nei rispettivi mercati».
Riferendosi alle prime due navi che saranno realizzate a Sestri Ponente e a Monfalcone, Arison ha sottolineato come il prezzo finale per queste unità sia positivamente comparatile con il prezzo di 165-175mila dollari per letto che Carnival ha sempre pagato per le navi di questi marchi. In merito alle due altre navi realizzate successivamente nei due stabilimenti, Arison ha osservato come il relativo costo per letto sia compreso nel range 150-170mila euro che Carnival ha sostenuto anche in precedenza per i propri marchi europei.
Il CEO di Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono, ha sottolineato come l’accordo consenta all’azienda italiana di assicurare continuità produttiva ai propri stabilimenti fino agli inizi del 2008. L’intesa - ha aggiunto - permette «di creare per gli anni a venire le condizioni ideali, nell’ambito del rapporto preferenziale instaurato tra le due società, per l’elaborazione di nuovi progetti che daranno vita a una nuova generazione di navi». «L’accordo inoltre - ha proseguito Bono - è un riconoscimento da parte di Carnival della capacità di Fincantieri di garantire la realizzazione di progetti di così ampio respiro. Fincantieri ha infatti una solida struttura patrimoniale e finanziaria e risultati economici positivi e ha assorbito con azioni continue di efficientamento il venir meno dei contributi alla produzione».
«Questo accordo - ha commentato il presidente di Fincantieri, Corrado Antonini - riafferma e rafforza ulteriormente lo speciale rapporto tra Fincantieri e Carnival. Questa partnership, sviluppata nel corso degli anni, è alla base della crescita e delle notevoli performance di Fincantieri nella progettazione e costruzione di navi passeggeri ed ha contribuito al successo del leader mondiale del mercato. Grazie alla nostra flessibilità sia nella progettazione che nella fase costruttiva, stiamo attualmente realizzando navi per sei differenti marchi di Carnival, con circa metà della loro flotta aziendale costruita dalla nostra società»
Con questi nuovi ordinativi la capacità della flotta del gruppo Carnival crescerà del 5,9% nel 2007 e del 5,1% nel 2008, contro una crescita media del 15% nel triennio che va dal 2002 al 2005.
