I would like to thank Porthole for their best issue (June 2004) in years.

When Porthole started under the direction of Douglas Ward (who still writes the Berlitz Guide to Cruises & Cruise Ships), it had the most magnificent ship reviews available. They would tour three ships an issue (on average). After Mr. Ward retired from the publication, it slacked off. Lots of advertising and few ship reviews.

In their June issue "You Asked - We Supersized! Triple the ship reviews", they do wonderful photographic tours of Queen Mary 2, Oosterdam & Regatta. If you see it, it is a treat!

Thanks for the tip; I'll pick up a copy. It's usually such a dog of a magazine that I hardly ever look for it.

Excessive ads, non-cruise book reviews(?), very few ship pics and an uppity attitude have kept me from buying it.

In it's early days, I thought it was a top notch magazine and much more Trade oriented than Consumer oriented...it's really gone downhill in the past few years and I rarely buy it...it's now on par w/ Cruise Travel.

Sad for what was such a promising publication.

At the store I get books at we don't get Porthole so i would need to subscribe but with some of what linerguy and Jekyll said I don't think I will....

Just received a mail from a Porthole representative and he said there will be a article about Westerdam in the September issue. Looking forward to that one as well!
