What's the word on QM2 arriving back in NYC tomorrow? Apparantly there was a "missing person" situation and then a medical evac diversion to Puerto Rico. There's a bit of "on-board" rumor speculation, but I see no official word yet.

Malcolm and Ernie -- what do you know?

Hi CruiseShelly,
I'm afraid I don't know anymore then you probably do. We are probably getting our information from the same source!

I do think QM2 will arrive in NY as scheduled, as these events are not significant enough to delay the ship. No doubt the authorities will board in NY to do a full investigation on the alleged suicide.

Thanks, Ernie, I write mysteries, and have a couple of times noted to others since our 10 May sailing that it would have been "dead" easy to jump overboard off the QM2. Rather disconcerting, actually. I was trying to work it into a plot I had going while aboard.

My young friend, The Chad, is on board and will be disembarking today, so I hope from a full report of the facts from him tomorrow or Monday. Captain Wright on anouther website, ostensibly ignored explaining what had actually happened. If there's really been a Suicide or Unrecovered Man Overboard I cannot imagine it will escape the ears/eyes of the Press.

let me know what you hear.

The QM2 has been significantly delayed. She did not arrive into New York today until 11:15-11:30 am and is scheduled to depart tonight at 10:00pm. Of course she may leave sooner.

I have heard since my last post through the grapvine (and not the internet, but someone told me verbally who works in connection with the QM2 shall we say), that the missing person jumped overboard. Hmmmm, well, anyone else who hears anything, post here!

I got this from the US Coast Guard website where they posted this news release:

COAST GUARD CONDUCTS SEARCH AND MEDEVAC FROM QM2

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Coast Guard Command Center in San Juan, received a report from the QUEEN MARY 2 (QM2) that a 46 years old man was missing and had possibly jumped overboard between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night after a verbal argument with his girlfriend.

QM2 departed Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday with the missing listed as checked in and received a report from his girlfriend at 8:45 p.m. that she had found a suicide note from him. He was last reported seen by a cabin steward at 8:30 p.m. and a thorough sweep of the ship was conducted by the crew with negative results.

The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen to conduct a search. The QM2 was also directed to turn around and search along their original trackline. The HH-65 searched through the night and into the morning but was unable to locate the missing passenger.

Around 2:00 a.m. the QM2 was allowed to continue to her next port of call in New York City, NY. but was forced to turn around and steam back twards San Juan because of a second emergency. This one, a passenger suffering from heart problems, required a Medevac. A second Dolphin helicopter and an HU-25 Falcon jet were launched from Borinquen to airlift the patient, who was delivered to Isla Grande Airport for further transport by ambulance to San Juan Centro Medico .

So mistry solft. And life gose on. It happen to other cruise liners in the past, and will happen again.
Nothing more nothing less.

He must have been desperate about his situation to do this. It's sad whene people diside to take there life. Great los fore those who left behind and probely his loved ones will never seen him again ore have a proper funneral so they will able to restart there lifes.

That say i realise that it's possible that he is a victim off crime. I hope and it sound strange that he take his own life,

The truth is always perferable to speculation. I figure the US Coast Guard ought to be a reliable source -- more so even than passengers aboard who heard only rumors.

The QM2 does seem to have more than her fair share of medical emergencies, although I suppose the media are very keen to report them. Given the number of very elderly people who cruise, it is a fact of maritime life, I suppose?

I recall the QE2 had an empty cabins when she arrived at NY – with no sign of the occupants. Sad, but I suppose the occupant went out in style.
