I am considering a quick trip to Alaska, and I found a great deal on Veendam. Is Veendam in good condition? Does anyone know when she was last refurbished? I have been on Rotterdam, Zuiderdam, and Oosterdam; never on one of the smaller HAL ships. I am considering traveling alone for a week of peace-and-quiet/ R&R. What do you think of this ship?

I've sailed on the Veendam many times, the last being in Feb. and she is in great shape. While she was in drydock a Neptune Lounge and Pinnacle Grille were added, plus other refurbishments.

She's a smaller ship than the ones you have been on and the only drawback is that she doesn't have the centre set of elevators, but then being smaller, they are really not needed.

I think you will like the ship. Good one for R&R.

Thanks for the information. Do you know where the P Grill was placed? Did the Veendam get new carpet etc? I wonder if she got the new matresses that HAL keeps talking about? I heard a rumor once that Veendam was to have its spa expanded onto a front open deck area (I hope this isn't true). Did the drydock include painting the hull below the water line. In some pictures I have seen of Veendam, she looks really bad next to the waterline (am I being picky?)

This is treu and is a major rebuilding program in the Signature of Excellence. The whole superstructure above the bridge will moved forwards to make space fore the new Green House Spa. The Lido restaurant will be renewd fore more casual dinerprogram's, and there will be more service points in the Lido restaurant. A kitchen will be add to the movietheater, so top chefs will give koocking lessons in the morning. Outside there will be a exclusif food and winestore. And the transformation off the library in to the sidewalk cafe (the space will included the library).

Is this same work being done to your namesake, the Maasdam? Has it been done to her already, or is it scheduled? I've been attracted by an itinerary of hers at the end of the year and was just wondering if we would be getting all of the new stuff if we did it. Thanks!

Maasdam,

Do you know if all of this has already been done or will be done at some point in the future? It seems that the recent drydock would have been too short to accomplish all of this. Any information.

The rebuilding program written in my replay is from a article in the HAllo magazine (the 3 monthly magazin off Vereniging de Lijn a club off old HAL workers and HAL fanatics here in the Netherlands)

well the Signature of Excellence is a upgrate program reflect almost all classes of ships in the HAL fleet except the new Vista class ships. And the Noordam will not have the additional lounges addet she is sold and leaving the fleet at the end off this year.

All ships are now upgradet acording the article.

After the upgrate they will start with the rebuilding program of the S class vessels (Statendam, Maasdam, Rijndam and Veendam) The S class will be the only group off vessels where ther will a chance to the

I don't no whene they start the rebuilt program of the ships. And wich ship would be the first one.
I hope that the rebuild will improve there looks.

Whene now more will instantly post it here on Cruise Talk.
