Here is a picture of the new funnel for MSC. There are more pictures here. I don't think it looks bad but I think it looked better before.

Classy! The blue funnel looks great. The logo is fine, but rather small, as the old logo was recognisable from far away. I'm curious how Rhapsody and Monterey will going to look with their new funnels.

It sure differentiates it from the old logo, the one still used by the container line. A step in the right direction in my opinion. The dark blue funnel on white hull/superstructure will not be so obvious. What do you think, should the hull be the same dark blue? Rendition anyone?

Cheers

I actually like the new funnel color. The blue is not really unique that the white funnel, but its classy!

More news about MSC Opera:

MSC Cruises' latest newbuild, MSC Opera, will be named at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire on June 9. The godmother is Rafaela Aponte, wife of MSC owner Gianluigi Aponte. Mrs. Aponte played a major role in the ship's interior design.
Actress Sophia Loren, the godmother of MSC Cruises' first-ever newbuilding, MSC Lirica, will attend a welcoming event when Opera arrives in Genoa.

I like the funnel color better then before but the logo needs more color then just white. What she needs now is a blue strip on the hull.

The new logo doesn’t do much for me, I liked the former one better as a graphic design also the way it was portrayed on the funnel was graphically more accurate. The new logo is too to wriggly which may look nice on a sheet of paper or a plastic bag but on a funnel (especially seen from a distance) it is just looks terrible. It shows creating an multifunctional logo is not so easy as it looks.

I prefer the old logo. I also prefer the white funnels. I don't like the blue funnel at all.

like the yellow/gold color of the logo as it stands out better. Matching gold and navy stripes around the hull would be nice.

I think the darker hull brings out all the other features of the superstructure, like any dark glass. If the newbuilds at Alstom and the ones later on at Fincantieri have 'a la Vista-class' balconies then the tinted glass used in those will show up even more. Also the the dark blue is complimentary to the orange colour of the tenders/lifeboats. What do you think? Is this the way to go for MSC Cruises?

Cheers

It looks nice makes her overall look be more long and slender, her bow looks faster as well. Reminds me a bit of the Galaxy’s bow this way.

Just made a Lirica bleu hulled version from the back, just to see how her stern would look.

You make good renderings bulbousbow, looks real and I have to say the blue hull is better then the white.

Onno I also like your image too, all we have to do now is get MSC to paint there ships like this in real life !

Thanks for the photo of Monterey's funnel. In your photo album I also saw this unfinished hull, named "Noahs Ark".... what's the story of this unfinished plan? Is it the same ship as is offered at Tug-barge.com ?

Hello Rob!

Yes, it's the same hull. Here's a link about her (in Swedish):

Noah's Ark

It's a hull of a cruise ship dating from 1979 with an interesting bow, but no progress has been made since that. She has changed owners and names, but that's all. The usual Greek story. It's unique, that a 25-year-old hull is still hanging around, and at Tug-barge it says: 'her hull was found to be in "rough" condition'. I can surely understand that!

The link to Tug-barge: Noah's Ark again

Sorry I do not like Lirica with a blue hull. But I love the logo in yellow/gold, here's AJL's Monterey as such. So much better than the white imo

Here are two more renderings, but this time with the yellow logo and stripe along the hull.

...the stern view (thanks for your pic Onno!!).

Check out the flag and home port. What do you think?
