Of all those rooms and lounges, which one did you like best ? Was the cosiest ? The best visited ? The most overcrowded (you seemed to be alone on the ship).
Tnx
Johan
Kind regards,
Rob

I can't understand why all the pictures, and surely those of yours, of the QM2, posted here on the web, give a more pleasing image of the QM2 than all the Cuanrd publicitiy.
On the other hand, I don't think it is a décor that will stand the test of time - lots of refits the next 3O years, I guess.

Johan:
I agree 100%. My biggest problem with cruise lines today is the utter lack of style when it comes to brochures. Years ago, steamship lines use to publish wonderful interior booklets, huge deck plans, photo packets, etc. Today, when I open up a cruise line brochure, 80% is filled with itineraries, destination information and photos,...mostly of beaches. Boring.
Hopefully, Cunard will soon release a brochure dedicated solely to QM2.....no itineraries, no pics of beaches, churches, or people riding on camels.
Pam:
Question......did they have a passenger list that they gave to everyone?

..or body beautiful models sipping cocktails/lounging by the pool. Very little of the actual ship if anything. Emphasis is very much on the 'enjoy your holiday' aspect in a resort, rather than a trip on a ship.Johan a lot of the QM2 stuff around is still showing the earlier pre-finished renderings, these really by now should have been changed. Pictures on the web can look very different from one monitor to the next.
Even browsing through JMG's book the composition of the photos is great, but the printing of them is not so; most are very 'wishy washy' in colouring, other have tints of wrong shades making some areas look positively dull. I would have thought in such a book the printers could have matched up colours a bit better, but as I know nothing about publishing, it may be harder to do than it seems?
Yes Russ, we have a Passenger List. A treasure to keep. [One could exclude one's name if you so wished before it was printed, but no idea how many, if any?, people did]. Colin is there, and so are we.

My book is not like that but it came from Amazon?
The book is very interesting, but not much on or any photos of the outside deck areas. I have not 'read' it as such, just browsed odd sections of interest, more of a 'coffee table' book than a reader.
I was really looking for some info on the Samuel Cunard Portrait, but I cannot even find a mention of it in there at all? Have you noticed? The index doesn't point to anything.

Oh, I see what you mean!
Yes, there is a variation in colour and colour cast, but this is probably due to different photographic techniques used? I notice the photographer used both film and digital technology.
It must be extremely difficult to light such big rooms? Some have little natural light. I don’t know if time exposure was used to make the best of the available light? Neon tubes and light bulbs do produce a colour casts, unfortunately. Mind you, a top photographer should be able to correct this at the printing stage. Of course there is always the debate of what is the ‘right’ or ‘natural’ colour?
The one with the captains table is probably just ‘flash’, the others would have been lit much more carefully, I assume?
I think the results are perfectly acceptable and the best images of the QM2’s interiors that I’ve seen in a book, but there is not too much competition yet, is there?
I found the text about the building of the QM2, far more interesting than the section on Cunard’s history, simply because the latter is available elsewhere.

You are right Malcolm I suppose I shouldn't have commented.

Some are indeed very good, but some worse than those I listed above... OK I didn't say that
I see there is a Plisson book due out towards the end of the year. Considering the excellent shots on his website I am hoping this will be a superb book.I thought Maurizio Eliseo was going to produce some sort of a book of images of her building, but apparently not

I just sat down this pm to actually read from the beginning rather than browse different secitions of interest, and thoroughly enjoying it, very good indeed. Well worth buying, for those who haven't got it.
Of course you should, it is a very valid point.
I suppose it was a race to get the book out as early as possible...no excusses though.
I noticed the picture on page 52 the photo caption says: "Robert Tillberg pauses on one of the vessel's staircases". However, it looks more like his office to me!
Curious as to the reference to the "Indoor Sports center" p66, was it going to be covered? and the golf simulators are by the Pavilion Pool, not the Splash Pool.
Another interesting point, are the plans on p147. It appears G32 was to have been the 'Yacht Club' and Princess Grill, "Empire Grill", I rather like that.Pam

I was about to say that maybe it is not considered very PC to call something 'Empire' these days, until I remembered the Casino still is!
G32 should have been desinged more 'yacht Clubish' and been called the 'Yacht Club'. At present it looks like it belongs on a Carnival or RCI ship!
