I suppose I was bit by the QM2 bug more than I expected. My brother and I just booked the QM2 this morning to sail in a couple weeks on May 10. It's an 8-day Caribbean sailing round trip out of NY. We received an ok deal (good for QM2 I guess) in an outside guarantee cabin (C4-category or
better).

I just unpacked from the NORWEGIAN DREAM in Europe and now it's time to do it all over again for QM2!

Needless to say I'm very excited to finally experience this ship first hand. If anyone else is going to be on the sailing please drop me a line and we can meet for drinks.

Ernie - who is floating on cloud nine at the moment as this was all rather unexpected.

Hi Ernie, it was only a matter of time. The 8 days should give you enough time to see the entire ship!

I look forward to your feedback, you are well qualified to compare the ship and the experience, with others.

Cunard must have had cancellations as I called the world desk a few months ago for those few 8 days trips from NYC and was told the ship was almost sold out for most of the year! I was looking for a 'hull hole' veranda cabin and was told all that was available were a few mini suites. No insides, no upper verandas and no suites at all-Did I get an inept agent at Cunard??

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I'm getting real excited now. Dealing direct with Cunard has been wonderful and everything has gone like clockwork with this booking.

Cunard upgraded us to a balcony which is great news (obstructed view, deck 8), and also confirmed us for second sitting. I wasn't sure that would be possible for such a late booking. If the actual cruise meets the same standards as my pre-cruise experience then I am in for a treat.

I'll be sure to pass on my thoughts of the ship, maybe even while onboard since no doubt I will buy an internet package.

Thanks again!
Ernie

The deck plan in the brochure for deck 8 is pretty accurate, so if it appears that the Life Boat only half obscures your view on the plan, it is probably so.

Never the less, the deck 8 Cabins are nice, obstruction or not!

Ernie, you can send E-mails from your cabin TV - it is is so easy! All you do is create a pass word using the wireless keyboard in the draw, and off you go! It cost $1.50 per E-mail, I recall, but there is no time limit. You can also check your onbaord account and book excursions etc using the TV.

Do try and catch the productions shows, they had some of the best singers and dances that I have EVER seen onboard a ship. There was a 'Rock @ the Opera' show featuring 'Bohemium Rapsody', 'Pinball Wizzard' etc. which was very good, and a dance show called 'aPassionata' which was excellent!

Make sure you fit in a 'Planetarium Show' too, they are only short. It is quite a novelty!

Enjoy!

There is so much on the TV it's a novelty in itself. You can order your room service items, drinks, food etc, report a maintenance problem, order your wine for dinner, view all the weather history & forecast.

This shows the weather Malcolm had, and the beginning of our trip. [I got so much Mickey taken out of me by the family, for photographing the TV, but it really was interesting]

Pam, the only thing that I did not work out about the TV was if it could be used for watching TV?

Did you photograph the meals too?

Ernie,

CONGRAT'S! I can feel your excitment and I share it for you!

I hope to sail on her someday myself. What I wish is that I had a travel type job that would pay for it! (keep on dreaming, Mary!)

Have a wonderful time and take a LOT of pictures for the rest of us!

Mary
