Thanks, Capt. Rhone.

I hate to say it, but they looked better with the shopping cart handle.

Interesting to note the one lone lifeboat - would this have been for seatrials? has it had sea trials yet?

Also another thing... below the aft cabins it can be seen the name is just " Princess" ... i trust its still being called sapphire princess?

I agree with you on that, LLC. The aft of the Sapphire is of the same category of that of ex-ferry island Escape. IMO Horrible!

RobHolland,
I hope to see the cruise ship to be build in your country as like as Statendam or Rotterdam in very near future.

I may be biased because im booked on sapphire... but i like the aft decks of the ship especially with the new placement of skywalkers. here is a comparison of the aft decks of Caribbean Princess and Diamond Princess

(Mike and Carol’s photos) & (Harry Martin photos)

With that said, from a distance i would have to agree the the aft is pretty ugly! tho come to think there arent many newer ships with good looking afts!

The website stated above by captain rhone has had a couple more pics uploaded (12/4) - here - also after close examination ive noticed that over the past 2 days they have painted the name 'Sapphire Princess' on the back!

Also another fantastic shot of the aft pool from mrmacdj

fyi- they dont build cruise ships in the US (unless you count the norwegian america ship), and how can you not agree that the stern is very ugly. i think the whole ship is basicly all ugly, accually. but whatever, just get back to showing your japaness pride and stop worrying about the ugly princess ship.

The aft decks of the DIAMOND/SAPPHIRE are much much better then when covered by the shopping cart handle. Now you can get sun back there without it being blocked by the shopping cart handles shadow.

Oh and speaking of office buildings, I'm telling you there is an apartment building I have seen that looks eerily similar to the Vista Class, seriously.

I can't count the norwegian america ship.
I'm Ship Lovers especially for Ocean Liners and Cruise ships.
I never imagine the ugly ships for above ships.
Each ships has identity and carefully designed by Builders and Shipping / cruise lines.

I agree, Diamond and Sapphire are not the most attractive ships- HOWEVER, I love what Princess has done with their aft decks. The tiered decks with pools and open to the sun (thanks to the redesign of Skywalkers) brings to mind the old days of cruising. Rather than isolated on the top of the ship- from the aft there is a wonderful panaramic view of the sea... and of course the wake of the ship.

more photos updated (23/4/04) here

i guess this is it leaving for sea trials...

its pretty incredible what a few days does! it doesnt look like a construction site anymore... it looks like a 'finished' ship (well getting there!~)

i read on other boards about a rumor of delaying its first cruise... after seeing these photos i would be pretty confident if i had a booking on its first cruise!
