Didn't see this posted anywhere so I thought why not:

Big refurbishment program for Crystal Cruises ship
March 8, 2004

Crystal Symphony is undergoing what Crystal Cruises says is the line's "most extensive" interior refurbishment to date.

A spokeswoman said more than 150 projects would be tackled onboard the Symphony while it was in drydock in Lisbon, Portugal.

These included a redesigned spa, an expanded University@Sea Internet cafe, a newly decorated dining room, a new ‘Vintage Room’ for wine-tasting and a renovated library.

More info can be found at:

Crystal Symphony to receive multi-million dollar refurbishment during scheduled drydock

Seems like this is not an easy task. Is it done to update their fleet with the CRYSTAL SERENITY?

Probably it was designed to bring the Symphony up to the standards of the Serenity. The Crystal Symphoney is now about nine years old (she came out in 1995) and due for a facelift if she is to retain her caché as a luxury product. Usually some of the cabins have to be refurnished anyhow and once you are in to expanding a facility like the internet café or spa, there is always a rearrangement of some other rooms and spaces.

Basically Crystal is trying to stay ahead of the game.
