Hi all,

For those of you interested, I have uploaded a comprehensive 7-page virtual ShipTour with over 130 photos of my recent pre-inaugural overnight on board the majestic new QUEEN MARY 2.

The review features (many) interior photos and hopefully paints a picture of the good looks of the world's largest ocean liner.

Photos and review are now online in the February issue of Passenger Ship Parade
. If you have visited my site recently, you might want to reload the index page to get the latest version.

I hope you enjoy it all!
Bart

Bart, this is going to sound like a weird question, but then it's a weird situation. Look at the following picture:

See the picture on the computer screen (or is that the television) on the desk? This is weird but that is from the 1980's English band ABC's music video "The Look of Love" (I know because A: I am a fan of ABC in their early days and B: I have that music video on DVD). Were they playing 80's music videos in the cabin on the computer (or the television)? How strange....

Hi CGT,

Yep, you're right. I'm quite sure there was a video of Duran Duran showing on the TV when we entered the suite and ... uhm ... then ABC appeared. One of QM2's many stateroom tv channels is in fact showing 80s videos...! ;-)

Ha Ha! I love it. The early '80's were "my time" as far as music goes, and I was what they used to call a "Durannie"

CGT-who used to dress like Simon Le Bon and wanted my hair styled like Roger Taylor (hey I was a teenager, okay?)

Another question. What is that laying on top of the bed? I've seen it in othe QM2 cabin photos and it loooks like a thick sheet of plastic.

It's a protective cover placed on the beds during embarkation day so your luggage doesn't dirty the duvets when unpacking.

Several cruise lines do this, for certain HAL and Celebrity.

Why not just place luggage stands under the beds. like how hotels have them in the closet.

Floor closet/space is usually at a premium - where would you stow the luggage?

Good question. I don't know why, but I've never been on a cruise ship that had them. Maybe they figure space is at a premium, but most new ship cabins today have more than enough space for them.

Fab. pictures Bart! I'm studying the 'Finding your way around' write-up with particular interest

Did you happen to visit any of those cabins Malcolm refers to as 'Hull Holes'?

Ernie, first noticed the vinyl proctecters when we were on the Maasdam in November - they easily roll up and slide under the beds.

I've had these "plastic protectors" on several cruises before - Celebrity, Seabourn, Cunard and seen them on Radisson, Silversea. I thought they were pretty common - guess not...

The idea of luggage stands under the bed is GREAT!!!! Market that idea!

Hi Green,

This picture shows both the "hole in the wall" (if you look closely) and the plastic luggage sheet.

Thank you Bart!........I'd looked very closely at that pic - keeping my fingers crossed that it was a Cat. 3C for which I'm holding a guarantee - didn't want to get my hopes up so figured I'd ask.

Stands? what's the difference really.. it would have to go under the bed after use. In a hotel I often just leave my case on them, but wouldn't on a ship. Asides from the space, it may fall over at some point Plastic sheets are cheaper for the cruiseline & do the same job.
Pam
I forgot to add what a brilliant review Many thanks..

I have seen various comments from people not thinking a lot to the Wintergarden, but I love your photo there.
Just wondering in the bathroom, why they didn't swap the position of the toilet and sink, so the toilet could be screened off? I like that sort of arrangement, and seems as though there is the room to do so?.. Bart's bathroom photo

When I first glanced at the opning page, I thought I was seeing the shuttle ready for take-off

BTW: Thanks to all of you for your positive comments. They are truly appreciated!

Bart, wondering if he should rename the site SpaceShipParade after Pam has seen Space Shuttles on the opening page...

Hi Bart

Just a quick question - the TV shown in the first photo looks like a flat screen, silver coloured TV, whereas the TV in the photo showing the balcony is a black, "normal screened" TV. We were in several cabins while on board and they all had the TV pictured in the balcony photo. Did different cabins have different TV's?

I think it's the difference between certain suites, and standard cabins. Too bad all the cabins do not have flat screen panel TV's. This is no different then many newbuilds (Celebrity and Royal Caribbean come to mind) that have superior hardware in suites.

FYI, all the Windstar vessels were recently fitted with flat screen panel TV's in every cabin. Nice touch.

I think the day will come soon (when flat screens come down in price) that a large newbuild will have flat screen panel TV's in all cabins.

Ernie
