What is the appraised price on the World Renaissance?? And will she have a reserve price too?? I dont think she will go to Alang, she has Diesels and has had alot spent on her, I believe she is better than the Olympia Countess! I think she will see further trading as her appraised value will probably be too high for scrappers!!

I was on the World Renaissance on an Cruise in June 1994, starting Bremerhafen and gone to Genova, round Western Europe.

It was an good Experience, she has plenty of Deck Space (Teak Wooden Deck), and two Swimming Pools outside.

The Restaurant was spacious, and the Cuisine predominantly Greek Dishes, with good Service by Greek Waiters.

It is an former Ship of the French Colonial Line
Messageries Maritimes, but note: she is now 38 Years old.

The Price would not be high, i think about 5 Million Dollar US...

It's her age that will make her way to the breakers more likely instead of cruising on.. she really is a dated ship. And I don't see her continuing her life at one of the bigger companies. When I saw her for the first time in Barcelona last year, first thing I mentioned was the lack of open deck space, as only her aft is really used and forward there is a huge unused space. I don't think it's a fine ship; the Countess had more charm IMO.

Having cruised on the Olympia Countess I can say that with no doubt World Renaissance is far better: larger cabins and very nice public lounges.
As I have already said several times in other posts, Olympia Countess interiors are very dated and worn: she still looks what she formerly was, a Cunard mass market ship of the Seventies.
Returning to World Renaissance I suppose that probably she will go to the breakers: who could be interested to acquire her ? EasyCruises perhaps ?
In both cases a sad end for a nice ship who has successfully sailed for Paquet, Costa and Epirotiki.

Just thought I'd post of picture of the lady in question. I photographed World Renaissance last September in Malaga, Spain when she was arriving ... note the anchor used to get her alongside.

Sha has sailed in Alaskan waters on the 7-day cruises from Vancouver between May 18 and Sep. 23, 1976 when she was sailed as Renaissance(all white painted) of Paquet Cruises.

Actually that wouldn't be a bad idea for World Explorer to acquire her. They are actively looking for a ship, with Diesels and one that would not need a whole lot of work and one obviously they could get fairly inexpensive! I'm not totally sure IF World Explorer has the funds to buy her or if they are just looking to Charter a ship??

Anyways she would be an ideal ship for their type of itineraries that's for sure!!

In '87, She worked on 9-day southbound cruises and 12-day northbound cruises between Los Angeles and Acapulco in the Spring and Fall
and 12-day Alaska cruises From L.A. or S.F. to Vancouver and Reverse in the Summer.

RENAISSANCE was built for Paquet, not Messageries Maritimes.

The 2 big questions these days regarding older ships are:

1. what method of construction? Method I, II or III?

2. does she have sprinklers?
