Thank you so much for your post. I do not contribute to this site often but I want to express my sincere appreciation for those who regularly provide the information and links for such informative news. Beautiful image of a a proud man. What a huge responsibility he has to deal with.. When seeing this photo it reminded me at Titanic very much..a "look-a-like"-Captain and a pretty simular situation with a new brt-record.

And for your daily bit of trivia, the Red Ensign was used as Canada's national flag up until 1965, when it was replaced with the Maple Leaf.

It's also known as the Meteor Flag and was the first National flag of The United States.

(My wife is the VP of Production for the National Flag Co. here in Cincinnati,.....I suffer from FTO: Flag Trivia Overload)

Yep! QE2 used to fly the Blue Ensign rather than the Red Ensign because more than 1/2 her officers were members of the Royal Navy Reserve, but in recent years she has flown the Red Ensign. Of course, British Naval vessels fly the White Ensign.

If you believe "big is beautiful", she is beautiful indeed. However, maybe it's just the angle in the two photos above (and QM2 fans may want to throw plum pudding at me --it's Boxing Day, afterall) but she looks decidedly top heavy!

I was there, onboard mvOcean Scene. Photos soon.
I did notice a strange flag too.
It was hanging from one of the balconied cabins starboard side, just beneath second from last boat.
It looked like the US flag, but with 3 rows of stripes. They were 3 in the middle and four top and bottom.
Any idea?

IMO, there are certain angles that make her look a bit top heavy but, oddly enough, I don't have a problem with this view. I think she looks top heavy in views looking directly bow on at prow height. If the view is lower at, say, waterline or dry dock level, she looks perfect.

Even the most beautiful liner of all time, Normandie, looked a little top heavy at certain angles,...especially foreshortened views.

Great ship seen here one BBC looks very beautifful and powerfull.

Brain we in the Netherlands have just sort off flag you written about whene the crew is navy reserve. In the Netherlands the flag flying when here captain and crew are navy reserve is: just the Dutch red, white and blue white disc and a crowned anchor in the white disc.
