I have always read that QE2's draught was too deep to dock in Long Beach next to the Queen Mary. However, a poster on another board said he docked in Long Beach on the QE2.

Possible or not?

He probably meant that he docked in San Pedro which is right next to Long Beach and can be easily confused as Long Beach. I think QE2's draft is too deep for the new pier next to Queen Mary.

I believe the Port of Long Beach is more than capable of docking a ship the size of QE2 and QM2. The problem is that the passenger facility that Carnival built is not large enough to accommodate these ships. I'm not sure if the problem is the depth of the water of the length of the pier (or both).

The Port of Long Beach handles some of the largest container ships in the world (at the outer berths), and I think many are larger than QE2 and QM2. Of course the facilities are geared for unloading cargo and not passengers so no liners dock there.

I did check out the website for the Port of Long Beach but I could not find out info on water depth or pier lengths.

To my knowledge the QE2 has never docked anywhere at the Port of Long Beach in her history.

The cargo areas of the Port of Long Beach would be more than capable of docking the QE2. However, I have always believed that the spot where Carnival built it's new pier for passenger liners was too shallow for QE2's deep draught.

Regarding Carnival's new facility: the pier length is 1,110ft. and it's 28ft. deep

I remember seeing a rendering of this new terminal about a year or so back. It showed the Queen Mary and another Cunard vessel perpendicular to it...anyone know where to find the picture

I wish the City of Long Beach would get moving and finsish the project to look like that. Looks great. The "Cunard" liner has a funnel that looks like the Michelangelo and Rafello with the mesh around it.

I have to seriously wonder if the City of Long Beach will ever develop the QUEEN MARY area as depicted in that rendering. Somehow I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Unfortunately the QUEEN MARY attraction has suffered from low attendance figures much of her existence. Steps were taking to boost figures such as adding a Russian submarine and a bungee jumping attraction. I don't think either made a difference.

Most of the shops in the quaint Tudor style shopping village next to QUEEN MARY are vacant which is rather depressing. Certainly not a place most people would want to spend a day.

Of course the illustrated ship in the rendering may or may not be a Cunard ship. It's certainly small and nothing we will ever see. The closest Cunard ship we will see docked next to QUEEN MARY will be QUEEN VICTORIA. Of course you can pretty much envision this any weekend with CARNIVAL PRIDE. Change out the funnel to Cunard colors and you will get the idea.

I read somewhere that part of the operational plan would be for passengers waiting to board their vessel the opportunity to spend sometime visiting the Queen Mary. This would significantly increase the attendance figures. It is also hoped that ships from other Carnival Corp. lines will also use this facility. Perhaps Princess will move their operations there, and maybe even the round the world sailings with P&O will stop in. It will undoubtable improve the financial picture for the Mary.

Princess already stops there . P&O would be great and of course QUEEN VICTORIA. I really wish QE2 could stop there. I really dislike San Pedro. I am quite pleased Carnival built the pier there.
