Facsinating photo! Do you know where/when it was taken? Must have been some foggy day!

At first I didn't see the ship in the background at all, then all of a sudden she sort of started emerging... Eerie !

As for what ship it is what ship it is... Looks for all the world like REGAL EMPRESS but the funnel is the wrong color, or at least it doesn't match any of the liveries I know...

The place is Bar Harbor, Maine, and it sure is eerie, isn't it?

It is from a postcard. From the hull shape, she almost looks like a cargo ship conversion, like Daphne or Danae, although there probably is too much sheer to disqualify that thought!

I can envision just what sort of day that would have been taken on, seen plenty of fog up in ME myself.

DANAE and DAPHNE did come to mind but I think their radar masts are large enough that they'd show up in the photo. Also their forwards uperstructure isn't the same shape as the one in the photo. And their funnels never had such colors either.

Really everything seems to point to REGAL EMPRESS except those funnel colors. She was after all a relatively frequent caller at that port, and the profile of the ship seems to match perfectly.

Perhaps the funnel colors are some sort of illusion?

Whoops, we both posted at the same time...

Anyhow now that I look closely at that funnel you're right. The fog is playing with the colors, it looks like two different bands (I thought perhaps blue and red, like the post-soviet MAXIM GORKIY) but it is the usual single blue band that she had in the early '90s, a color scheme I remember very well myself.
