The time is fast approaching (3 days) till the largest cruise ship ever to visit Australian waters enters the heads of Sydney Harbour for the first time. Thousands of people (mainly CBD workers) are expected to line the shores of the most beautiful harbour in the world and watch this mammoth slowly steam into Circular Quay. The arrival is expected to be similar to that of the inaurgual arrival or Oriana, complete with bands playing, and fireworks at 9pm when the ship departs Sydney for the first time.

The current largest cruise ship to enter Sydney harbour was P&O Aurora @ 76000 grt to be replace by the 109 000 grt; talk about a boost in the tourism industry!

Glad to see the Star will be welcomed in style. We will be coming for our first downunder trip from the Southwetern Desert of the USA to take the Star to Auckland on January 17, then flying back to Sydney for a couple of weeks before leaving again on the Star to go from Sydney to Bangkok. We are looking forward to seeing this star City of one of our best allies..

Just back home from watching Star Princess sail out of Auckland.
Traffic was brought to a halt,on the waterfront, and vantage points around the harbour were thronged with crowds.
For anyone who knows Auckland she was taller than North Head....
2 days to go ......then we will be off to Sydney to join her and cruise back to Auckland.

Im getting soooo excited about seeing this bohemouth! What a grand addition it will make to our beautiful city. I will be one of those lining the shores at 4am wednesday to watch her gracefully slip through the heads and up the harbour to her berth in downtown Sydney, the Circular Quay International Cruise Terminal.

And ill be there to send her off in style as the harbour becomes alight in fireworks as our city is famous for, she will certainly be treated like a star! The it will be just 12 days till i fly to join her in Auckland to cruise home

bmajor you must be getting excited its so close, ill be one of many there at the terminal at 9pm to see you off. Have you got a balcony cabin? or will you be out on promenade? ill give you a wave!

We will be the Opera House side.
But we are travelling with friends
who have a cabin on the other side.
So what should we wave at you?

For Sydney Boy,

When you are in Ak on Dec 8,if you want some good shots of the Star......

1.Go up the Sky Tower, and you will be looking straight down on her.

2.Take the Devonport Ferry, about a 12 min ride over, across the harbour, and dont get off just come back.Should get some good shots from water level.

Thanks bmajor!

We are planning to go up the Sky Tower, we are staying at the Sky City Hotel which i believe is at the bottom of it?

How far is the wharf from the tower? could we walk down to the ship from the hotel? - we have bags with wheels....

Am getting very excited, as i imagine you will be. Im not sure when you leave for Sydney but hopefully you get this before your go. Let me know what deck your friends cabin is on and which end of the ship it is at i will work out where it is from the brochure and look out for you! You could tie a towel around the railing or something! Ill be waving a red cap!

Princes Wharf is only about 3 blocks from Sky City.
There will be a lot of traffic around on the day and you could probably walk there and back again in the time it would take a taxi to get onto the wharf.
On sail out from Sydney we hope to be standing on the forward viewing deck above the bridge,so will look out for your red cap. Our friends cabin is on A deck, forward.
We fly over tomorrow morning.
Looking forward to comparing notes when you get back.......

Well she is here! I just watched her sail through the heads on this cold and wet Sydney morning! She slipped into the harbour under the cover of darkness at 4am and there were a few other crazy people braving the elements to watch her.

Very impressive! Although i think most of the passengers were in bed so there were 3 decks of darkness where the cabin balconies were! I took some photos which i will post soon. However she is now docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal Circular Quay and you can see the city through her bridge cam here..

Star Princess Bridge Cam

Will be going into the city later tonight to take daytime photos and watch her leave with the 12 minute fireworks display.

Sydboy - who is very impressed with her first impressions!
