When do you think P&O Australia will comeout with the Pcific Sun's deck plans? What changes will there be, besides public room name changes?
When will her itineraries come out, also?
Thanks in advance,
Tyler

I have not seen any itineraries published yet,but if you check out Ports of Sydney cruise schedule, they have Jubilee booked in for Oct 19 2004, and bookings through into 2005.
There is a gap from May to Oct in the bookings and this may be when she will be sailing out of Brisbane.
I guess we will have to wait for the official release.
Here is the link;

ok i found those sources...

'Cruises aboard Pacific Sun will go on sale in October this year with the release of a brochure outlining her 2004/05 itineraries. ' (P&O website)

'We hope the brochure for this ship should be available in October this year. This will have all the dates, itineraries and costings.' (email)

with respect to deck plans/ changes... id assume that would be in the brochure also- i guess we will have to wait and see!

Thanks for the update Phil_a and bmajor. I would be interested to know if any interior changes will happen on the PACIFIC SUN...

Phil, since we both submited our post at the same time, I will answer your cinema question...I don't think the JUBILEE has a onboard cinema.

lol! yeah i too think the Qld cruises will be popular!

anyway here are the only differences between the two deck plans (nothing big- just name changes)

OZ Dance Club = Night Club

Galleria Shopping Mall = Duty free shops

Gamz room & Logo shop = Duty free shops

Churchhills = Library and Internet Cafe

Pursers Lobby = Pursers Office (looks as tho its been enclosed?)

Thats all for the time- does anyone know if there is a cinema onboard? or is it all inhouse movies? - see above post (Thanks Keitaro)

Interesting that the VR tour on P&O's site shows photos of JUBILEE as she is today... I wonder if this indicates that she won't get much of a refit for the Australian market?

I think you might be right. From what I recall, the PACFIC SKY didn't have much of a refit. Her interiors look out-dated IMO. I think once the JUBILEE is transferred, the VR tours might be updated...

"Previously sailing as Jubilee in the US, Pacific Sun will undergo a major $35 million refit before it arrives in Sydney in October 2004."

As this is from a P&O Australia press release, i take it thats $35million Australian dollars

Any idea where that refurbishment took place?

Also a few years back Sky Princess/Pacific Sky had a A$10million transformation at the Forgacs- Cairncross Dockyard in Brisbane Australia, i wonder if P&O will use the same group?

Well it looks as tho Princess have chosen Mivan to do the work on Jubilee/Pacific Sun.

Unfortuneatly they seem to have decided not to invest much money in it... 3.5M according to this press release

From the link Phil gave:
quote:
Mivan’s design and fit-out contract covers the conversion of public spaces including spa, casino, photo gallery, video arcade, lounges and children’s’ areas.
Thats minor stuff! I bet the decor in the JUBLIEE is going to be the way P&O Australia look in the future. Fun ship of down under.

I can see that money being spent on some paint for the hull... a blue/yellow stripe... and maybe some 'Pacific Sun' signs/stickers to replace the jubilee ones!

Reading the press release it seems the 3.5 million dollar figure might simply be what the deal is worth to Mivan in terms of profit, The actual cost to P&O could still be $35 million when you take into account the cost of all the parts/supplies and interior finishes/furnishings etc.

The press release also states Mivan will work on the ship for 3 weeks at the Grand Bahama shipyard before its team sets sail for Australia presumably to complete the work on the way and on arrival in Sydney. This is a considerably longer period than the Pacific Sky refit which i think was about 10-12 days and cost P&O $10 million.

So Phil i wouldnt conclude they have decided to scale back the refit, indeed 3 weeks is a long time to have a ship out of service and alot could be accomplished in that time! Infact i wouldn't be surprised if the interior finishes in most of the public lounges/spaces etc are significantly modified, even if just tthrough new colour schemes/carpets/soft furnishings and layout etc

I hope so at least! I really hope they get this Carnival transfer right, as it seems we are going to jubilee dumped on us here in Sydney permanently! If you look at the Sydney ports cruise bookings list you will find Pacific Sky is not returning to Sydney after August this year, only Jubilee! Seems as though we are losing her to Brisbane permanently!

She will be missed!
