My family is trying to plan another early March Caribbean Cruise. Last year my grandmother, my sister and bother-in-law, their two young boys, and my parents sailed on Navigator of the Seas and had a fantastic time. We all sailed on the Norway in 97 and the Carnivale in the mid 80's. After the Carnivale trip I swore that I would never sail Carnival again and since then have sailed 12 times on other lines. I have been on Norway, Rembrandt, Regal Empress, Rotterdam VI, Zuiderdam, Explorer of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas, Grand Princess, and most recently the Summit in Alaska. I am sailing on Oosterdam in December. I have not had a bad cruise since Carnivale. Now the delima, some of my family will be driving and would like to leave from Port Canaveral. Disney is expensive, and the Mariner is going to the Eastern Caribbean which we did last year. Zaandam seems like a bad option for childern. Carnival Glory is doing an OK Western Caribbean the first week in March and seems to be an option. My family, thinking that I am the cruise expert, has asked what I think. My initial reaction was no way are you crazy. I have read so many bad things about Carnival. On the other hand, there seems to be a trend of more positive comments about Carnival. I enjoy a nice ship, I am not a party animal and we are not big drinkers. We like good food and good entertainment and we want the children to be in a good environment while on this ship. What do you think, would Glory be a big mistake?

Thanks

Absolutely you should try Carnival again. In the last 3 years I've sailed on Carnival, NCL, RCCL and Cunard. Carnival was better in almost every area than NCL and RCCL. As for the drinking, I saw no more on Carnival than I did on NCL and RCCL. In fact, I really think I saw more on RCCL (who actually had a waiter pushing a beer cart in the lido at breakfast).

Carnival has a bad reputation which it is trying hard to overcome. Those who perpetuate it most likely have never sailed on Carnival.

Carnival Cruise Lines has come a long, long way since your sailing onboard CARNIVALE. The ships are new and state of the art, and many of the newer ships are actually quite nice. Food and service is on par with, but in my experience even better than, Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and NCL.

I just returned from the CARNIVAL CONQUEST, sister to the GLORY, and the ship was quite nice and food and service very good. The ship was crowded though, and there were plenty of kids. This will also be a problem on any sailing to the Caribbean in March, as this is Spring Break time and you can expect plenty of rowdy collage age kids. Of course this would also be a problem on Royal Caribbean, NCL, and Princess as well.

If the CARNIVAL PRIDE were still sailing in place of the GLORY from Pt. Canaveral, I would recommend her without question. I did not like the CONQUEST as much, and feel for any future Carnival cruises I will stick to the Spirit Class ships (CARNIVAL SPIRIT, PRIDE, LEGEND, MIRACLE). These are the best ships in the Carnival fleet, with the highest level of amenities, service, and food not to mention the highest passenger space ratio in the fleet. They were built for longer cruises and it shows. CONQUEST was also nice, the layout is not as good and the ship seemed much more crowded, especially with kids. Of course I did take my cruise during July so this was to be expected.

I see you have sailed on NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS. It's hard to beat this class of ship, and I think they are the best in the 7-day Caribbean market. I loved VOYAGER and nothing Carnival has can quite compare.

If it were up to me, I would take MARINER OF THE SEAS out of Pt. Canaveral if that is a possibility (I know you want Western Caribbean though). If not, GLORY is a good choice but remember it's Spring Break time.

Ernie
