This is Southampton is reporting that the Queen has not yet confirmed she will attend the christening of Cunard's QM 2 on January 10th - oh my

Pam, are you available that day?

From This is Southampton:

Will Queen be at launch of QM2?

by Keith Hamilton

FEARS have been raised that the Queen will not be present at the launch of Southampton's new superliner the Queen Mary 2.

Buckingham Palace has still not confirmed if the Queen will be coming to the glittering ceremony to launch the £540m vessel on January 10 next year.

The vessel's owners Cunard were told they could expect a decision from the Queen no less than six months before the launch. There is speculation that the Palace has been angered by Cunard's decision to build the luxury vessel in France.

A spokesman for Cunard said they had not yet approached anyone else for the launch.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: "We will not be making an announcement on the Queen's winter programme until the latter part of the year."

It would give me great pleasure to attend the christening of Queen Mary 2, and an honour to be part of such an historic occasion. Having consulted my Private Secretary, it appears I am indeed available should he be approached. My winter programme is rather empty at present.
However, my Lady in Waiting is concerned that nothing in my wardrobe is suitable for such an event. Some prior notice would be required for appropriate attire to be commissioned. The hat is the problem.

Could you not borrow one from the estate of my most favorite royal, the late Queen Mum?

Pam - It woud be a pity to miss out on such an occasion for want of a hat!

I know of a flattering cartwheel size creation - tulle, ribbons, exotic feathers and flowers in many hues, suitable for a gown of any colour! It was comissioned (but never worn) for an 'up scale' (real County) wedding

Alas, there's many a slip twix the cup and the lip - the couple eloped.

I feel sure a rental could be arranged!

Unfortunately all the Queen Mother's hats have been auctioned off in the name of 'Good Causes'. Of course I could always drop by the local Oxfam [Thrift] shop if need be. They may well have such an item collecting dust.
Green, I am sure it's a great hat, but maybe a bit too glamourous for the occasion? I hope Queen Mary 2 doesn't elope back to France. A trip to Toronto to 'borrow' may be a nice idea, if somewhat costly!
..and to Malcolm - I can only assume I am not good enough to have been shunted down the list. So far down as to have to remain at home and watch on TV/PC.. shame 2 days later we'll be wet & windy, freezing cold, sipping tea covered in salt spray.. I hope, and come home elated!

Thad,

Another great photo by Maurizio Eliseo. I am curious though, how does he get all these pictures. Does he live there, work there, go on a lot of shipyard tours? Do you or others know Maurizio?
