Does anyone know why Carnival stopped using Kockums to build their ships? Was it because they didn't have the capacity to build the Fantasy class ships, they were unsatisfied, they were only used to finish the last 2 Holiday class ships after the Danish yard went bankrupt, or something else. I'm just curious, because the Celebration is my favourite Carnival ship, or close to it.

Hello,
as a former Carnival purser, I heard some behind the scene gossips.
Facts : Kockums closed shortly after delivering my favorites Jubilee and Celebration. Did you like them for the Marketing "Superliner", or the models in Admirals'Lounge?
Gossip: Carnival is supposed to have bankrupted them as the contract was based on unfavourable change for the Swedish. Same thing happened to Wartsila, now Kvaerner.
They still build ships, perhaps thanks to restructuring, RCCL Eagle class and surprise surprise..Carnival Legend Class(though the yards are in different locations).

Barryboat, Kockums was the shipyard that built the Jubilee and Celebration. They're in Sweden. Anyway, personally I like the models in the Admiral's Lounge, but when I was on her, my favourite were the trollies. I was one and a half. She was the only ship my father ever went on twice, oddly enough he doesn't care for her too much.

Hello

Kockums are still in business they are building submarines and they have done that since 1914. The submarines they build today are fitted with the Stirling engine, which make it possible for the submarine to stay submerged for weeks. The also build surface vessels with advanced stealth technology. and believe me they won’t win any beauty contests.

Thanks for the link for Swedish shipbuilder Kockums.
So glad they survived after such a Carnivalesque adventure!
I trained on "Superliners" Jubilee and Celebration before joining Classic Mardi Gras.
The Swedish built ships were outstanding and rode the seas well compared to RCCL Sovereign class, or in fact any Rccl ship then!
The crew was happy, and I was allowed in the engine room at start time..very impressive and clean and silent for a diesel!
Why did Carnival go to Wartsila/Kaverner for the lucrative Fantasy contract?
Kockums had the sisters built side by side, quite a feat, but perhaps the dock was not long enough for a 70,000 tons ship?
Pity, Kockums-built vessels in my opinion looked slighty better.
BTW, I quite like this Stealth destroyer/frigate!

I didn't know Kockums were building the Visby class stealth corvettes. Apparently the US navy is very interested in their design as part of its study into the Littoral Combat Ship. Maybe they can just Xerox the plans as they did with the designs for the Dutch LCF (Air Defence and Command frigate). My fellow Dutch people are real fools sometimes
