1. Where, other than on the deck, can I smoke a cigar?
2. If I bring my wireless-equipped laptop on board, will I be able to use it to get internet access?
A good cigar and a glass of Cognac after dinner is important to me on any vacation.
I understand that many people do not want to be exposed to smoke and this is fine but there should be a designated area in which one can enjoy a cigar.
Not on the dawn.
We sailed on the Dawn Princess twice last year, in Jan. from San Juan and in late Aug. we did the Alaska cruise. The only place that you can have a cigar (bring a good supply...they don't sell them onboard) is on deck (port side) or on your veranda.
I will NOT do it a third time.
I could not use my wireless laptop onboard. They have a group of PC's connected for internet service that you can rent but it is expensive and they don't work very well at all. At every port we found an internet cafe that offered broadband at cheap prices.
If your laptop can access the internet through a cellphone, you should be fine while you're in port. But as soon as you go a couple of miles from the shore, you'll lose the signal. So you could write your emails off-line, at sea, and ping them through later.
You won't be able to hook the laptop up to the ship's internet service.
One question, though: Why? You're on holiday -- stretch out, smoke the cigars and leave the laptop where it belongs ... at home!
