Hi all,

I was just looking at the Queen Victoria section on Fincantieri's web site and I though I'd also have a look at the military section. Here there are details of the aircraft carrier 'Andrea Doria' (interesting name!) Not too sure how big this floating city will be but if the size of the crew is anything to go by it will be huge.
The following figures are from the Andre Doria section of Fincantieri' s website:

Andrea Doria was a famous Italian Admiral as I remember it.

The ship's company were obviously calculated in Metric..or like the late-lamented litre, required the subtraction of several zeros to get the correct amount.

Or something!

I get the idea that they must have made a typo.

The entire crew of the largest US aircraft carriers is about 5,000.

I seriously doubt that the Italians are building an aircraft carrier with a crew of 860,000 ...

Ah, I got the answer:
They are still calculating in Italian Lire. One Italian Lira converted to one German Mark by omitting the last 3 zeros. So it must be with Italian soldiers: 1000 Italian soldiers equal 1 english/american soldier! Or as we are in Euro times the ration is even 2000 Italians for one.
