I just read the WHOLE press release that RCI announced about changes to MONARCH OF THE SEAS. Below is what I came up with.......

1)ShipShape Fitness Center and Spa will be placed where the AIN'T MISBEHAVIN NIGHT CLUB on deck 9 (one deck lower).

2) From RCI's press release:

quote:
The first floor of the Windjammer will now include an Asian-fusion restaurant, Jade, in addition to its previous extensive buffet of contemporary entrees, salads, sandwiches, side dishes and desserts. The Windjammer also will be reconfigured with buffet "islands" to facilitate traffic flow. Upstairs, guests can try the exotic offerings at the upscale sushi bar, Jade Sushi, or check out the creative creations at the gourmet pizza station.

3) The mid-ship lounge on Deck 7 (Dancin Lounge) now will be a Latin-themed bar, Boleros.

4) The lounge on Deck 8 (April in Paris) is being transformed into a disco hot spot with a new look and name - The Circuit.

5) Teen/kids area is will entended aft on Sun Deck offering the type of room seen on NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS.

6) Expanding the existing conference center on Deck 7 into 3 seperate rooms, "Voyager", "Explorer", and "Adventure".

quote:
Renovations will begin in mid-April with limited, unobtrusive work being done while the ship is in service, followed by major demolition and rebuilding beginning mid-May in the Freeport, Bahamas, shipyard. Rebuilding will be completed in transit as Monarch relocates to Los Angeles with a crew-only Panama Canal passage.

Wow sounds exciting! Hope they pull it off. Anything is better than Viking Serenade, the last ship to do the 3 to 4 day trip out of LA.

You are incorrect, Tom Selleck. The last ship to sail the 3 and 4 night cruises to Ensenada was the Vision of the Seas, which I must say was 100-times better than the awful Viking Serenade.

I also guess this is the beginning of the end for RCCL's public rooms named after musicals. It should also be added that the Brigadoon and Micado restaurants will be renamed Claude's and Vincent's, respectfully after Monet and Van Gogh of corse.

MagnmPI, where have you been. I haven't seen your posts in a long time .

Does anyone know what the existing ShipShape Fitness Center and Spa will become?

Hey thanks for noticing that I have been absent for about 2 years! To make a long story short, I moved from one house to another that was in the process of being built so in the mean time all my stuff, computer too, was in storage (8 mos). We moved in about a year ago, but add to that my two year old bouncing off the walls and my father who needs special care now and I can't find the time.

My wife and I are planning a short anniversary trip on the Coral Princess in a couple weeks and thought I'd try to get back into the swing of things here again.

As for Vision of the Seas, I stand corrected. However that ship seemed to be more of a quick fix for the 3 to 4 day LA trip, which is usually relegated to the "not so nicest" ship in the fleet.

For the past almost two years, the ship has been sailing out of Palma de Mallorca as the Island Escape for a RCCL - European subsidiary, First Choice. The ship was well refurbished and, after a disasterous maiden voyage, has turned into a popular cruise choice for budget-minded Brits.

I cruised on The "Viking Serenade" when she sailed for Sundance Cruises, and I must say she was a unique ship and I was impressed with the product Sundance offered, they did very well as did the Sundancer and I think this kind of service would work again given the right ship!!

She was a great ship..sure she looked ugly, but that's besides the point! Mind you after Royal Caribbean took out her car decks she just wasn't the same as I sailed out of L.A. on her afterwards and she just was not built as an actual cruise ship, but as a Cruise Ferry! So Yes she is going to look different!

But I am glad she is doing well as The Island Escape..She can introduce good cruises tot he people of Spain!

She's not on the Spanish market as far as I know... And anyhow the Spanish have some very nice ships, nicer than her.
